A new full-fledged NETAJI SUBHAS CHANDRA BOSE INDIAN CULTURAL CENTRE (NSCBICC) opened its doors to the public in Kuala Lumpur on 4th November 2009 to showcase India’s rich heritage and promote multilayered cultural exchanges between the peoples of India and Malaysia. The establishment of a the Centre is an important initiative of the Government of India, in keeping with the high priority it attach

es to its bilateral relations with Malaysia. It will give India’s cultural presence in Malaysia a major fillip and constitute an important dimension of the friendly partnership between the two countries.

On 30 May 2026 the Bhai Mardana Sangeet Academy in collaboration with presented KALASANGAM concert, bringing together the magic of Indian classical music and dance in a truly mesmerizing way.

Vocal brilliance by Dr. Aviraj Tayade, disciple of Bharat Ratna Pt. Bhimsen Joshi, left the audience spellbound while the rhythmic mastery on Tabla by Shri Nitin Ware added depth and vibrance to the recital.

The evening also showcased Bharatnatyam performances of Guru Ms. Pradnya Gore and her students as well as Kathak performances of Guru Dr. Manjari Sriram Dev and her students.

For the very first time at NSCBICC, the rare and soulful Esraj was also played by Sh Debayan Mujumdar that added a unique dimension to the evening’s celebration of culture.

The students of Bhai Mardana Sangeet Academy also took the stage with soulful rendition of Bhajans and Hindustani classical ragas.

The 100+ audience enjoyed this soulful coming together of music, rhythm, movement, devotion and artistic excellence.

PONNOVIYAM 2 - Exhibition of Thanjavur Paintings was inaugurated on 23 May 2026 at the Multipurpose Hall of the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Indian Cultural Centre (NSCBICC), Kuala Lumpur () by Chief Guest YB Senator Puan Saraswathy Kandasami, joined by H.E. B.N. Reddy, High Commissioner of India to Malaysia. Smt. Lalita Devi Reddy, Datuk Ar. P. Kasi, Ms. Deepa Rajendra Okade, and Smt. Vijayalakshmy Sunderrajan, Counsellor/Director of NSCBICC along with over 120 art enthusiasts attended the event. The exhibition organized by NSCBICC showcased the works of Mrs. Valli Sevugan and her students celebrating the timeless beauty of Thanjavur painting—renowned for its vibrant colours, intricate detailing, and rich use of gold foil.
The evening opened with a soulful prayer by one of Mrs. Valli’s students, followed by addresses from dignitaries who praised the exhibition’s role in strengthening cultural diplomacy and community bonds. H.E. B.N. Reddy commended the dedication of Mrs. Valli and her students while YB Senator Saraswathy highlighted art’s power to bridge traditions. Datuk Ar. P. Kasi noted the historical patronage of Thanjavur paintings by the Telugu and Maratha dynasties and Ms. Deepa Rajendran emphasized their living heritage. Mrs. Lalitha Reddy, a student of Ms. Valli, shared the learning process highlighting the intricate detailing and spiritual essence of the paintings while Mrs. Valli encouraged young learners to pursue traditional art with sincerity.

The exhibition drew art lovers and cultural patrons who admired the devotion and craftsmanship in each piece. Running until 29 May 2026, it offers visitors a glimpse into the splendour of Indian heritage and the enduring appeal of Thanjavur art.

*‘Perak’*- a musical and dance concert was held on 16 May 2026 at Dewan Banquet, SUK Perak,by NSCBICC in collaboration with Greentown Indian Cultural Society(GICS) to mark the successful completion of the 3-month Kathak and Carnatic Vocal Learning Outreach Programme with the Kumpulan Selendang Perak(KSP). The event was officiated by DYAM Raja Iskandar Dzurkarnain Ibni Almarhum Sultan Idris A’fifullah Shah, Raja Dihilir Perak Darul Ridzuan.
Shri Hitesh Rajpal, Deputy High Commissioner , in his speech appreciated the hard work of the Teachers of Indian Culture at NSCBICC as well as the 23 participants from Perak who embraced the opportunity to learn and perform the Indian classical art forms.
The evening began with Dabus, the traditional Perak state dance performed by the Perak State students, followed by group and solo Kathak presentations. Special thanks were extended to GICS for their coordination.
The event in part of the ongoing Programme of Co-operation in Culture, Arts and Heritage signed between the Governments of India and Malaysia in 2024 during the visit of YAB Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim, further strengthening cultural ties between the two nations.
