YAYASAN JCORP CONTINUES CORAL RESTORATION EFFORTS AT PULAU AUR
From 4 to 6 September 2026, Yayasan JCorp returned to Pulau Aur, off Mersing, for the third consecutive year, reaffirming its long-term commitment to supporting the restoration and protection of Johor’s marine ecosystems.
Working alongside strategic partners Reef Check Malaysia and Dive Nautics, Yayasan JCorp carried out its largest coral-restoration activity to date. A total of 300 coral fragments were propagated and outplanted during this year’s programme, bringing the cumulative total to 550 coral fragments since the initiative began in 2023.
The coral fragments form part of a wider reef-restoration effort. Healthy coral reefs provide essential three-dimensional habitat, shelter, feeding areas and nursery grounds for a rich variety of marine life, including reef fish, crustaceans, molluscs and other invertebrates.
The progress of the outplanted corals will be monitored through periodic site visits, maintenance and clean-up activities. These efforts help improve the corals’ chances of survival and growth, while supporting the longer-term recovery of reef habitat. The success of coral restoration, however, also depends on broader conditions such as water quality, storm damage, coral bleaching, disease and responsible marine-use practices.
This third year is more than a programme milestone. It reflects a sustained commitment to an ecosystem whose recovery takes time, care and continued stewardship.
