Throwback to our mural launch earlier this month, when Australian High Commissioner HE Danielle Heinecke joined the Mayor of Kota Kinabalu, alumni and members of the local community to unveil the 'Remembering Australia Place' mural on the eve of Sandakan Day.

The mural is a symbol of the shared stories of friendship, sacrifice and resilience between 🇦🇺 Australia and 🇲🇾 Malaysia.

Australia and Malaysia's enduring people-to-people ties continue to create opportunities for meaningful dialogue and collaboration 🇦🇺🤝🇲🇾

Last week, 🇦🇺 welcomed Ms Nurul Izzah Anwar on a Special Visit Program, which took her to Perth, Canberra and Sydney to engage with a diverse range of politicians, policymakers, religious leaders, academics and civil society representatives on social, education and gender policy issues.

During her visit, she met with the Hon Dr Anne Aly MP, 🇦🇺's first female Muslim minister, as well as Malaysian-born Members of Parliament Sam Lim MP and Dr Zhi Soon MP.

She also joined Australian National Imams Council President Sheikh Shadi Alsuleiman, Dr Ibrahim Abu Mohammed - M***i of Australia and Australia’s Special Envoy to Combat Islamophobia Aftab Malik to exchange perspectives on challenges and opportunities facing Muslim communities in 🇦🇺 and 🇲🇾.

Keeping 🇲🇾 Malaysian 'steak-holders' up to date on how 🇦🇺 Australia maintains its world-class meat export system🥩

Agriculture Counsellor Dr Kate Makin joined 🇲🇾 importers, distributors and retailers at Meat & Livestock Australia (MLA)'s Market Access, Insights and Activities Update event last week.

She provided an overview on 🇦🇺’s meat export system, highlighting its strong foundations in animal health, trusted halal assurance framework, stringent export standards and robust government oversight.

Plus, every Australian meat establishment exporting to 🇲🇾 is JAKIM-approved.

We were also delighted to learn that Aussie Beef & Lamb Malaysia has been named the Official Beef Partner of ASEAN's four football tournaments this year:

🇦🇺 Australia is committed to supporting stronger regional collaboration on animal health 🐮

Agriculture Counsellor Dr Kate Makin recently attended the Global Animal Production and Veterinary Industry Summit (GAVIS 2026) in Putrajaya, where veterinarians and agricultural experts from government agencies, universities and industry bodies came together to exchange knowledge and strengthen collaboration on sustainable development across the livestock and veterinary sectors.

Australian experts Dr Jenny-Ann Toribio from the University of Sydney and Steve Unwin from Wildlife Health Australia presented at GAVIS and highlighted the importance of the One Health approach, which recognises the interconnections between human health, animal health and environmental health.

GAVIS 2026 also provided the perfect opportunity for the Asia Pacific Consortium of Veterinary Epidemiology (APCOVE) Malaysia team to meet and reconnect.

🇦🇺 Australia is committed to continuous innovation in education and empowering the next generation of talent across the region 🧑‍🎓

This week, Australian High Commissioner HE Danielle Heinecke celebrated UNSW College's 60th anniversary and launch of its Applied Degrees program alongside education partners and friends from the region.

These Degrees take "learning by doing" to the next level, aiming to address the industry’s most pressing skills gaps by focusing on work-integrated learning.

On World Humanitarian Day, we honour humanitarian workers around the world who risk everything to help people in crisis.

Humanity depends on humanitarian action. Last year, 350 aid workers were killed while delivering life-saving assistance to those who need it most.

Australia, alongside the Ministerial Group, is advancing the Declaration for the Protection of Humanitarian Personnel to uphold international law, better protect aid workers and strengthen accountability.
