A big thank you to everyone who joined us at the Legal Open Day 2026, held on 19 August 2026 at the Lobby, Chancellery Building, Universiti Malaya.

The event provided a valuable opportunity for the UM community to engage with the Pusat Perundangan, learn more about our services, and gain practical insights into legal issues relevant to the University community.

Among the key areas highlighted during the Legal Open Day were:

Construction Industry Payment and Adjudication Act 2012 (CIPAA 2012) – understanding payment disputes, adjudication and the importance of timely resolution of construction-related claims.

Tenancy Law in Malaysia – key legal considerations relating to tenancy agreements, rights and obligations of landlords and tenants, and common issues arising from tenancy arrangements.

Legal Services & Support – an overview of how the Pusat Perundangan supports UM in contractual, employment, governance, dispute resolution, compliance and other legal matters.

We are truly grateful for the support, participation and enthusiasm of everyone who made the event a success. Your engagement and feedback are invaluable in helping us strengthen our role as a trusted legal partner to the University.

Thank you for making Legal Open Day 2026 a success!

In today's digital workplace, emails are more than just a communication tool—they may constitute legally binding agreements when the essential elements of a contract are present.

Before sending an email, ask yourself:

✔️ Am I making an offer or accepting one?
✔️ Are the terms clear and complete? ✔️ Do I intend to create a legal commitment?
✔️ Do I have the authority to bind my organisation?

Under Malaysia's Electronic Commerce Act 2006, electronic communications may have legal effect and can be admissible as evidence in court.
Let's cultivate a culture of responsible and professional communication:
✅ Think before you send.
✅ Use clear and appropriate language.
✅ Avoid making commitments without proper authority.
✅ When necessary, state that discussions are "Subject to Formal Agreement."

Your words have legal consequences. Use them wisely.
