On 19 August 2026, Prof. Dr. Kamruddin Ahmed, the Malaysian Principal Investigator of the SATREPS project “Project for Sustainable Control of Zoonotic Malaria through an Integrated Approach” (Borneo Medical and Health Research Centre, Universiti Malaysia Sabah), served as the first speaker in a symposium at the 16th International Congress of Parasitology (ICOPA XVI) in Montreal, Canada. His presentation, “The emergence of Plasmodium knowlesi malaria in Sabah, Malaysia,” addressed how environmental change and increasing human–wildlife contact are shaping the transmission of zoonotic malaria. He also took part in networking sessions with researchers from Japan, Brazil, France, Singapore, and Saudi Arabia, further strengthening international collaboration on zoonotic malaria control.
