JKKN Sabah hosts an appreciation ceremony for Nicholas Simun's dedicated service!

KOMPLEKS JKKN SABAH, 14 January 2026 — The National Department for Culture and Arts (JKKN) Sabah on Monday hosted an Appreciation and Farewell Ceremony for Mr. Nicholas Simun, in conjunction with his appointment to an acting position and new posting as an Assistant Engineer (Electrical) at the Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN) Base in Lumut.

The ceremony, held at the JKKN Sabah Complex, was attended by the Director of JKKN Sabah, Puan Marina binti Abu Bakar, along with members of the department’s staff, as a mark of institutional acknowledgment and appreciation for Mr. Nicholas’ service and contributions throughout his career with JKKN.

In her speech, Puan Marina expressed her heartfelt congratulations and highest appreciation to Mr. Nicholas on his career achievement, as well as gratitude for his dedication, commitment, and exemplary service over 17 years in public service, including his previous tenure with JKKN Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur prior to serving in Sabah.

She stated that Mr. Nicholas' contributions, particularly in the areas of technical expertise and operational support, had played an important role in ensuring the smooth implementation of numerous cultural and arts programmes, thereby supporting JKKN Sabah's ongoing efforts to strengthen the preservation and development of the state's arts and cultural heritage.

The ceremony also functioned as a platform to foster camaraderie and a sense of belonging among staff members, reflecting the department's organizational principles, which highlight a workplace culture based on gratitude, professionalism, and collegiality.

Mr. Nicholas now begins a new chapter in his public service career after reporting for duty at the RMN Base in Lumut, with the entire JKKN Sabah workforce wishing him continued success, easy ex*****on of new responsibilities, and maintained excellence in service.

The celebration culminated with the presentation of a memorial gift and a group photo session to show appreciation and remember Mr. Nicholas' dedication and service during his time with JKKN Sabah.

“THE UNTOLD STORIES OF SABAHAN CNY – A CULTURAL INSTALLATION EXPERIENCE”!

KOMPLEKS JKKN SABAH, 14 January 2026 — The National Department for Culture and Arts (JKKN) Sabah today received a courtesy visit from Ms. Michelle and Mr. Jason Phan, representatives of Remorph Sdn Bhd, during a meeting held at 9.30 a.m.

The visit aimed to establish a strategic collaboration and to seek support and engagement from public sector agencies within the cultural sphere, particularly in relation to the joint organisation of a Sabah Arts and Cultural Heritage programme in conjunction with the Chinese New Year 2026 celebrations, titled “The Untold Stories of Sabahan CNY – A Cultural Installation Experience”, scheduled to take place in February 2026.

The programme, which will be organised by Remorph Sdn Bhd in collaboration with several Sabah cultural associations and clubs, is intended to be an immersive cultural experience that will highlight heritage storytelling, visual arts, and community-based performances, as well as elements of cultural memory, oral storytelling theatre, competitions, and cultural performances.

The program is seen as an important platform for preserving, promoting, and elevating the diversity of Sabah's cultural history, in keeping with ambitions to empower local arts and culture through creative and inclusive approaches.

Both parties expressed hope that the outcomes of the meeting and discussions would open avenues for sustainable and high-impact collaboration, thereby contributing to the continuous elevation of artistic and cultural heritage values in Sabah.

The Ministry of National Unity (KPN) welcomes non-governmental organisations (NGOs) around the country to apply for Financial Assistance for Unity Programmes (BKPP) to carry out community-based unity projects through 2026.

KPN's aid helps organisers build social peace, encourage connection between disparate communities, and promote national unity at the grassroots level.

Applications are open on the following schedule:

JOIN ELLA AND RITMA KINABALU 2025 FOR THE MADODONG FOOD FEST THIS TONIGHT!

KOTA KINABALU, December 8 — The Mega Madodong Food Fest, one of Ritma Kinabalu 2025's most anticipated lifestyle segments, concludes tonight with a unique visit by Malaysia's Queen of Rock, Ella, assuring a spectacular climax for festivalgoers.

The food and lifestyle festival, which began on December 5 at the Likas Sports Complex Grounds, has brought together inventive culinary experiences, live entertainment, and community-driven activities with famous food merchants and contemporary food culture champions from across Sabah.

According to the organizers, this year's edition has a more comprehensive roster that includes cuisine, music, and modern cultural expression, establishing Madodong cuisine Fest as a prominent attraction throughout the Ritma Kinabalu 2025 agenda.

Tonight's highlight is a special performance by Ella, who is likely to wow spectators with her legendary tunes. The event will also be hosted by prominent entertainment personality Saiful Maun, who will bring fun and tremendous energy to the evening's schedule.

EDISI KE-11 RITMA KINABALU PERKUKUH PEMBANGUNAN SENI, BUDAYA DAN INDUSTRI KREATIF SABAH!

KOTA KINABALU, 6 Disember 2025 — Kementerian Pelancongan, Seni dan Budaya Malaysia (MOTAC) melalui Jabatan Kebudayaan dan Kesenian Negara (JKKN), dengan kerjasama Kerajaan Negeri Sabah dan Produksi Seni Kreatif menganjurkan Ritma Kinabalu 2025 atau lebih dikenali sebagai Rhythms of Kinabalu (ROK) bermula 5 hingga 8 Disember 2025 (Jumaat – Isnin) bertempat di Tapak Dataran, Kompleks Sukan Kota Kinabalu, Sabah.

Edisi ke-11 program ini terus mengukuhkan peranannya sebagai platform pemerkasaan seni budaya dan pemangkin pertumbuhan industri kreatif Sabah. Bertemakan ’Irama & Alam’, penganjuran tahun ini menekankan integrasi seni tradisional dan kontemporari melalui persembahan instrumen warisan seperti kulintangan, sompoton, gong, seruling dan tagunggu digabungkan dengan instrumen moden serta teknologi muzik terkini. Pendekatan ini menunjukkan komitmen berterusan untuk memastikan warisan muzik Sabah terus hidup dan relevan dalam landskap kreatif masa kini.

Majlis Perasmian Ritma Kinabalu 2025 hari ini disempurnakan oleh Yang Berhormat Dr. Andi Md. Shamsureezal Mohd Sainal, Pembantu Menteri Pelancongan, Kebudayaan dan Alam Sekitar Sabah, mewakili Menteri Pelancongan, Kebudayaan dan Alam Sekitar Sabah (KePKAS), bersama Yang Berusaha Encik Mohd Radzi bin Omar, Timbalan Ketua Pengarah (Sektor Kebudayaan dan Kesenian), Jabatan Kebudayaan dan Kesenian Negara (JKKN).

Turut hadir memeriahkan majlis, serta Yang Berbahagia Datuk Josie Lai Mei Sing, Setiausaha Tetap Kementerian Pelancongan, Kebudayaan dan Alam Sekitar Sabah (KePKAS), YBrs. Puan Marina binti Abu Bakar, Pengarah, Jabatan Kebudayaan dan Kesenian Negara, Sabah dan Ybrs. Encik Mohamd Raizuli bin Jusoh, Setiausaha Bahagian Pengurusan Acara, Kementerian Pelancongan, Seni dan Budaya.

Objektif penganjuran Ritma Kinabalu adalah bagi memartabatkan seni muzik tradisional Sabah, mengukuhkan kedudukan negeri sebagai destinasi pelancongan budaya bertaraf antarabangsa, membangunkan ekosistem kreatif merentas disiplin termasuk muzik, rekaan, visual dan teknologi, serta memperluas ruang kolaborasi antara penggiat seni.

Sejak diperkenalkan pada 2012, festival ini telah berkembang menjadi platform berimpak tinggi yang memainkan peranan penting dalam memelihara warisan muzik tradisional, merancakkan ekonomi kreatif, mengukuhkan jati diri masyarakat Sabah serta meningkatkan pelancongan berasaskan pengalaman budaya.
Antara segmen utama yang menjadi tumpuan ialah Malam Lestari Ritma Kinanalu, Kampung ROK Cultural Village Experience, Tamu Seni (Borneo Art Bazaar & Creative Market), Pertandingan Ekstravaganza Seni Muzik, Miss ROK 2025, Ratu Kebaya Cilik, serta Madodong Food Festival ROK. Turut memeriahkan penganjuran ialah Carshow Borneo Festival@ROK 2025 yang dijangka menarik kehadiran lebih 200 penyertaan pemilik kenderaan.

Buat pertama kalinya, ROK memperkenalkan Kampung ROK – Cultural Village Experience, sebuah platform interaktif yang menampilkan kehidupan kampung etnik Sabah seperti Kadazan, Dusun, Murut, Bajau dan Rungus melalui demonstrasi masakan tradisi, permainan alat muzik, adat resam, pembuatan Linangkit, permainan rakyat dan persembahan.

Pengunjung juga telah disajikan dengan Malam Lestari Ritma Kinabalu pada 6 Disember 2025 (Sabtu), jam 7.30 malam, menampilkan barisan artis tempatan Sabah seperti Dabra Sia, Tompuvan, Razali Kulintangan, Suara Buluh Perindu Kinabalu, Bolos Ru Bulur dan True Echo. Acara ini turut diserikan dengan persembahan khas oleh Ella, Ratu Rock Malaysia bersempena Madodong Food Festival pada 8 Disember 2025 (Isnin), jam 7.30 malam.

THE 11TH EDITION OF RITMA KINABALU STRENGTHENS THE DEVELOPMENT OF SABAH'S ARTS, CULTURE, AND CREATIVE INDUSTRIES!

KOTA KINABALU, 6 December 2025 — The Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture Malaysia (MOTAC), through the National Department for Culture and Arts (JKKN), in collaboration with the Sabah State Government and Creative Arts Production, is organising Ritma Kinabalu 2025, also known as Rhythms of Kinabalu (ROK), from 5 to 8 December 2025 (Friday – Monday) at the Dataran site, Kota Kinabalu Sports Complex, Sabah.

Now in its eleventh year, the festival has solidified its position as a forum for cultural empowerment and a catalyst for the expansion of Sabah's creative industry. This year's edition, themed "Irama & Alam" (Rhythm & Nature), emphasizes the integration of traditional and contemporary arts through performances featuring heritage instruments such as the kulintangan, sompoton, gong, seruling (flute), and tagunggu, combined with modern instrumentation and cutting-edge music technology. This strategy indicates a long-term commitment to keeping Sabah's musical history active and relevant in today's creative world.

The Opening Ceremony of Ritma Kinabalu 2025 was officiated today by The Honourable Dr. Andi Md. Shamsureezal Mohd Sainal, Assistant Minister of Tourism, Culture and Environment Sabah, representing the Minister of Tourism, Culture and Environment Sabah (KePKAS), together with Mr. Mohd Radzi bin Omar, Deputy Director-General (Culture and Arts Sector) of the National Department for Culture and Arts (JKKN).

Also present to grace the ceremony were Datuk Josie Lai Mei Sing, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Environment Sabah (KePKAS); Mrs. Marina binti Abu Bakar, Director of the National Department for Culture and Arts, Sabah; and Mr. Mohamd Raizuli bin Jusoh, Division Secretary of Event Management, Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture.

Ritma Kinabalu aims to elevate the prestige of Sabah's traditional music, strengthen the state's position as a world-class cultural tourism destination, foster a multidisciplinary creative ecosystem that includes music, design, visual arts, and technology, and expand collaborative opportunities among cultural practitioners. Since its debut in 2011, the festival has evolved into a high-impact platform that plays an important role in maintaining traditional musical heritage, boosting the creative economy, reaffirming Sabah's cultural identity, and promoting tourism through cultural experiences.

Key festival highlights include Malam Lestari Ritma Kinabalu, Kampung ROK Cultural Village Experience, Tamu Seni (Borneo Art Bazaar & Creative Market), Music Extravaganza Competition, Miss ROK 2025, Ratu Kebaya Cilik, and the Madodong Food Festival ROK. Adding to the excitement is the Carshow Borneo Festival @ ROK 2025, which is expected to draw over 200 vehicle owners, will add to the excitement.

For the first time, ROK introduces the Kampung ROK – Cultural Village Experience, an interactive platform showcasing the cultural lifeways of Sabah’s ethnic communities such as the Kadazan, Dusun, Murut, Bajau and Rungus. Visitors will be able to experience traditional culinary demonstrations, heritage games, musical instrument workshops, customary practices, Linangkit weaving, folk activities and live cultural performances.

Festival-goers will also be treated to Malam Lestari Ritma Kinabalu on 6 December 2025 (Saturday) at 7.30 PM, featuring Sabah’s renowned artists including Dabra Sia, Tompuvan, Razali Kulintangan, Suara Buluh Perindu Kinabalu, Bolos Ru Bulur and True Echo. The festival will be further enlivened with a special performance by Ella, Malaysia’s Queen of Rock, during the Madodong Food Festival on 8 December 2025 (Monday), at 7.30 PM.
