We urge the public not to buy, capture, or keep primates as pets. They are wild animals, and they thrive best in their natural habitat. The illegal sale of wildlife exists only because there are buyers. Every time someone acquires a wild animal as a pet, they fuel a chain of trafficking, abuse, and death. If there is no demand, there is no consumption.

🐒🔴 Profepa launches the campaign "Monkeys are not pets" to raise awareness about the consequences of trafficking these species and explain that they are not companion animals.

Illegal trafficking of primates in Mexico is a crime that causes enormous damage and suffering to the individuals, and has been eroding the populations of spider monkeys, black howler monkeys, and mantled howler monkeys.
