Nearshore ocean upwelling continues to hold immediate seawater quite chilly along the beaches from Eréndira down through Cabo San Quintín. This natural ocean buffer will keep our immediate shoreline feeling noticeably cooler and much more comfortable than the scorching interior plains.

Over on the Gulf of California side, exceptionally hot seawater is acting like an open steam room. This sweltering water is pumping heavy moisture straight onto the coast, creating sticky, oppressive heat while fueling afternoon cloud buildups along the high desert mountains.

The National Hurricane Center in Miami is closely tracking several tropical features across the basin, though none pose any direct core landfall threat to the Baja California Peninsula.

These active tropical systems will keep long-period swell trains running high along our entire Pacific coast. Mariners, small-craft skippers, and beachgoers along the Northern Baja Pacific, Mid Baja Pacific, Southern Baja Pacific, and Los Cabos must prepare for dangerous breaking surf and life-threatening rip currents on all south- and southwest-facing beaches.

Through the remainder of the holiday weekend, the peninsula will see a clear battle between tropical moisture and desert heat. Along the Northern Baja Pacific, the incoming weather disturbance off California will team up with moisture drawn from Hurricane Marie, keeping coastal skies mixed with high clouds while setting up a legitimate window for light scattered rain showers and sprinkles from late tonight straight through Sunday.

Heading into the start of the workweek, drier air will gradually reassert itself across northern Baja. Coastal beaches will return to normal morning cloud clearing with warm, pleasant afternoons, while interior valleys, desert plains, and the entire Gulf of California shoreline quickly turn blisteringly hot once again under blazing sun and trapped humidity.

By the middle to latter half of the week, our focus shifts back to the tropics to the south. The new low-pressure area developing offshore of southwestern Mexico will be tracking west-northwestward. That system could serve as the next moisture pump, sustaining elevated ocean swells along our Pacific surf line while potentially steering fresh pulses of tropical humidity and mountain thunderstorm chances back toward the southern capes and the Gulf of California.

The tropical conveyor belt across the Eastern Pacific continues to churn with remarkable energy, governed primarily by an unyielding high-pressure ridge stationed over the desert Southwest and northwestern Mexico. This atmospheric brick wall remains the primary steering mechanism for the entire peninsula, deflecting deep cyclonic circulations harmlessly west-northwestward into open waters while locking our interior valleys in severe, dry heat.

Meanwhile, a rich reservoir of tropical humidity continues to surge northward along our maritime corridors. Exceptionally heated seawater spanning the southern peninsula and the entire Gulf of California is functioning as a high-powered thermodynamic engine, pumping intense surface moisture into the lower boundary layer.

𝐂𝐮𝐫𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐀𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐒𝐲𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐦𝐬

The National Hurricane Center in Miami is actively monitoring three established hurricanes across the basin along with an emerging disturbance south of mainland Mexico. Hurricane Marie remains the dominant feature for our regional maritime zones, located several hundred miles west-southwest of Cabo San Lucas near 20.1°N, 117.9°W. Packing maximum sustained winds of 100 mph as a Category 2 hurricane, Marie is tracking west-northwest at 9 mph. While the strong continental ridge to our north will continue deflecting storms like Marie out to sea through the weekend, subtle shifts in that ridge early next week will alter steering currents. As the upcoming low-pressure area off southwestern Mexico matures into the middle of next week, any weakening or eastward retreat of the desert ridge could allow its outer circulation to push deeper moisture plumes closer to the peninsula's southern tip.

We advise residents across the southern half of the peninsula to keep their seasonal storm preparations current as this active phase rolls onward.

These massive swell trains will produce hazardous shorebreak, dangerous rip currents, and coastal surges along all exposed south- and southwest-facing beaches through the entire weekend. Boaters, panga captains, and coastal beachgoers should exercise caution around shoals and outer points.

Monsoonal Moisture and Thunderstorm Potential

Rapid evaporation off the sweltering Gulf of California will keep eastern coastal communities and foothill valleys enveloped in thick, muggy humidity today. As daytime solar heating acts on this unstable, moisture-rich boundary layer, towering clouds will build over the central mountain spines.

This setup will create the distinct possibility of scattered afternoon thunderstorms and brief downpours across the high peaks of Baja California Sur and the mid-peninsula before activity settles after dusk. Along the Northern Baja Pacific, the shallow marine layer will clear rapidly before midday, setting up a warm afternoon while high tropical clouds drift overhead without bringing significant rain to the valley floor.
