zcal practice and lead you through the process. Dating back to old pre-Hispanic cultures, the building is shaped like an igloo to represent the womb of the earth. The guide will take you through the four elements - earth, water, air and fire that are meant to purify and harmonize your mind, body and spirit. You will be led through the various phases of the process starting with the recognition of North, East, South and West and their significance to the Mayans. Then you will go into the Temazcal where the four phases of cleansing and the five points of visualization. First is the cleansing ceremony where incense and herbs are used. The guide will generate steam within the Temazcal by sprinkling water on the red-hot stones. The herbs give off a rich aroma. As the process goes on, the steam and heat will increase. Deep detoxification occurs, specifically helping to eliminate acids, balance the PH level and help eliminate heavy metals in your system. The Temazcal is one of the best natural ways to regenerate your body and clear your mind. The ceremony takes about 1 hour. You may refresh afterwards with fresh fruit juice and a dip in the fresh water cenote. Included is the entrance fee to Chankanaab so you may use all of the facilities afterwards -Sea Lion Show, Dolphin presentation, Manatee exhibition, Botanic Garden, Archaeological Zone, Beach and snorkeling (30 minutes). There is also a full service restaurant and bar available to purchase items from. Park hours are 8:00AM to 4:00PM. You may stay at the park until closing.
