Today, we recognise International Mountain Day by highlighting the value and vulnerability of Malawi’s mountain ecosystems. Our mountains are more than scenic backdrops—they shape local climate, feed our rivers, support biodiversity, and sustain surrounding communities. Their degradation is already visible in the form of soil erosion, reduced water flow, and increased disaster risks.
Team Adventure Malawi works around these landscapes, and we see both the potential they offer and the pressure they are under. Protecting them requires practical action: responsible tourism, community-led conservation, and continuous awareness on how daily choices impact mountain environments.
We encourage partners, youth groups, and local leaders to prioritise sustainable practices and to support initiatives that restore and protect our highland ecosystems. Malawi’s mountains remain central to our livelihoods and our identity. Safeguarding them is not optional—it’s necessary.
