Connecting for growth and opportunity!

Mzuzu Youth Anti-Corruption Movement was proud to join the Mzuzu City Youth Network and fellow youth organizations at the Mzuzu City Youth Open Day held at Katoto Ground in Mzuzu City.

This year’s theme, "Connecting for Growth and Opportunity", reminded us that when youth come together, we create bigger impact. The day was filled with dialogue, exhibitions, and networking focused on empowering young people to lead in building our city and nation.

We were honored to be graced by:
- CEO of the National Youth Council of Malawi
- CEO of Mzuzu City Council
- The Lord Mayor of the City of Mzuzu
and other distinguished dignitaries.

The Malawi we want starts with us — the youth.

The movement, joined the the First Lady of the Republic; Professor Gertrude Mutharika, and young leaders from Northern Malawi to discuss Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR). The dialogue initiated a project that seeks to secure inclusive space for young people from various backgrounds to talk about the sexual reproductive health issues they encounter.

The First Lady expressed concern over the high rate of teenage pregnancies, early marriages, and new HIV cases. She linked these problems to youth unemployment, peer influence, and insufficient parental support. To tackle these issues, she encouraged parents, community leaders, and faith leaders to play a prominent role in assisting and mentoring youth. She additionally urged young people to steer clear of premature sexual activities and focus on their education, stressing that it is still the most powerful means for achieving a brighter future.

Today, the Movement joined the National Youth Council of Malawi (NYCOM), the District Youth Office and other youth organizations to discuss the current state of youth engagement, empowerment, and development within Mzuzu City. The meeting served as a platform for youth-led organizations to voice critical challenges and suggest possible solutions to be addressed collaboratively. It provided a significant opportunity for us to engage directly with authorities to ensure that youth development initiatives remain transparent, merit-based, and impactful for our local community.

Mzuzu Youth Anti-Corruption Movement, Zatikwana Campaign and Section 30 Malawi have issued a joint press statement to mark this years` Martyrs Day cerebrations. The statement has been issued as part of a campaign aimed at promoting prudent use of Constituency Development Fund (CDF). In essence, the statement is a clarion call on young people to safeguard the human rights, freedoms and democratic values that our martyrs secured for us through sacrificial service to our country.

TOLL FREE NATIONAL CODE 332

The Government of Malawi has designated toll free code 332 as the official public reporting line for reporting delays in service delivery, unprofessional conduct by public servants, corruption and other forms of abuse of public resources, mismanagement of public resources, and failure to adhere to service standards.

How to use the code;

1. Dial 332 from any mobile network in Malawi,
2. Provide the name of the institution, office or individual involved,
3. Provide details of the nature of the issue,
4. Provide any other relevant supporting information.

The Government has assured the public that all reports will be treated with confidentiality and handled professionally in line with public service regulations.

Today, the Movement joined stakeholders in an engagement meeting hosted by the Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA) at Mzuzu Hotel. The aim of the meeting was to share important updates regarding the Electronic Invoicing System (EIS) and the management of Tax on Rental Income. The meeting highlighted the vital role of the EIS in improving taxpayer adherence, identifying fraud, and preventing illicit financial activities, all crucial actions for expanding the national tax base.

MRA also shared information about the countrywide rental income registration initiative, intended to establish an extensive database of property owners to guarantee equitable tax collection. The engagement highlighted the crucial function of civil society organizations (CSOs) in this transition, including raising public awareness and education, participating in policy advocacy to guarantee equity, and ensuring oversight to protect against possible corruption in the implementation process.

Although these reforms have evident advantages, we expressed concerns previously expressed by the business community and the public and large. Nevertheless, the forum valuably clarified misconceptions and established the foundation for continuous, trust-driven cooperation.

Yesterday, 19th February 2026, the movement honoured to hosted the Anti-Corruption Bureau (Regional Office -North) at our offices in Mzuzu City. We had a powerful conversation where we shared our experiences in organizing young people at the grassroots level to challenge dynamics of abuse of public resources. We shared success stories, best practices, challenges and threats. We also discussed areas of collaboration between the bureau and youth leaders.

Helen Adams Keller (1880 – 1968) an American author, disability rights advocate, political activist and lecturer once said; "alone we can do so little, together we can do so much." The movement remains steadfast to collective action in the fight against corruption and other forms of abuse of public resources.

Open Invitation to an Online Youth Anti-Corruption Dialogue Session.

Zatikwana Campaign, Mzuzu Youth Anti-Corruption Movement and Section 30 Malawi have planned a 6 months anti-corruption campaign. The campaign will involve multiple activities that aim to raise awareness about thematic issues, strengthen the capacity of youth leaders in addressing the said thematic issues, and addressing outstanding challenges within specific sectors. The aim of this dialogue session is to map out the central theme that will guide the campaign. The session will also be an opportunity for participants to streamline activities that can be done as part of the campaign.

Speaking Truth to Power: Anti-Corruption Showpiece.

Today, we joined Youth and Society and youth leaders from Mzuzu at the Anti-Corruption Poetry showpiece. We were treated with amazing poetry under the theme, "anti-corruption." It was encouraging to see young people use their talent to amplify voices against corruption and call on other young people to join the fight.
