Our vision of reaching 14 schools in Phase One continues to take shape. On Tuesday, 10th February, our team visited St. Mary’s Boys Resource Centre for the Visually Impaired in Karonga, where we installed 10 Blind Classroom systems.

To ensure uninterrupted learning, we also installed a solar power system and Starlink internet, providing reliable electricity and connectivity for both teachers and students.

In addition, we conducted comprehensive teacher training, equipping them with the skills to confidently operate the system and effectively support learners whenever they need assistance.

Earlier today, one of our dedicated teachers from one of our piloting schools, St Joseph’s School in Dedza, Mr Menzim Zimveka conducted a teacher training session on the Blind Classroom system at Montfort Demonstration School in Dedza.

It was an incredible and engaging session, during which participating teachers gained a clear understanding of how the system works and truly appreciated its impact on visually impaired learners.

We are confident that these trained teachers will now support and guide students at Montfort in effectively using the system, enabling them to access quality and inclusive education with confidence.

As part of our commitment to providing quality education for visually impaired students, we have installed new BlindClassroom systems along with a Starlink internet connection at Ekwendeni Primary School in Mzimba.

To ensure a smooth rollout, we conducted technical training for the teachers, helping them become familiar with the systems and guide students effectively. This empowers learners to easily interact with the system with ease and confidence.

As part of our scale-up to 14 schools and 140 systems in phase 1, we have successfully delivered 12 Blind Classroom systems to Montfort School for the Blind, along with a solar power installation to ensure reliable and sustainable access to learning technology. Montfort also serves as a teacher training centre, making this a key milestone for both learner support and capacity building.

This implementation is being carried out in partnership with Save the Children Malawi and with guidance from the Ministry of Education, strengthening a collaborative approach to inclusive, technology-enabled learning for learners with visual impairments.

We are proud to be starting this journey in Malawi as we build a scalable model for inclusive education across Africa.

We attended the National Open, Distance and E-Learning Symposium under the theme “Bridging the Gap: Enhancing Access and Success in Open, Distance and E-Learning.”

During the symposium, we shared insights on how our initiative, The Blind Classroom is transforming access to education for learners with visual impairments.

We highlighted how the initiative leverages assistive technology to make learning materials accessible through audio-based content , and inclusive digital tools. The Blind Classroom addresses key barriers in open and distance learning by ensuring that visually impaired learners can independently access lessons, assessments, and educational resources regardless of location.

The Blind Classroom promotes equal participation, improves learner confidence, and enhances academic success for visually impaired students. This aligns strongly with the symposium’s goal of bridging educational gaps and building an inclusive, learner centered open and distance education ecosystem.
