Outreach Clinic at Ngalamo Area, Maziko Evacuation Camp – Mangochi

On 30th April, 2026 The Ministry of Health, in collaboration with Mangochi District Health Office (DHO) and Mangochi Municipal Council, conducted an outreach clinic at Ngalamo Area, targeting disaster-affected communities residing at Maziko Evacuation Camp.

Ngalamo Area was hit by floods following the rising water levels of Lake Malawi and the Shire River. Over 23 families were displaced and are currently sheltered at Maziko Early Childhood Development (ECD) Centre, which is being used as an evacuation camp. The area is hard to reach, with communities relying on canoes as the primary mode of transport to access essential services.

The core objective of the outreach clinic was to ensure continuity of health services for the displaced population, who face significant barriers to accessing routine care due to flooding.

Over 100 people were reached with different services include;
1. Family Planning Services
2. Child Health Services
3. Outpatient Department (OPD) Services
4. Immunization Services
5. HTS
6. Nutrition Screening
7. ART
8. Antenatal Service

The Outreach Clinic conducted with support from WHO and Malaria Control Program

Mangochi Municipal Council is working with different partiners in order to promote health and welfare of displaced people.
