📢 Did You Know ?Community Development Agreements (CDAs)⁉️

📍A Community Development Agreement (CDA) is a formal agreement between a mining company and the local community that outlines how the community will benefit from mining activities.

📌Under the Mines and Minerals Act, 2023, all mining projects operating under Large-Scale Mining Licences are required to enter into a CDA with affected communities.

📌The Act also requires the holder of a Large-Scale Mining Licence to contribute at least 0.45% of the mine's annual gross revenue towards implementing the Community Development Agreement for the benefit of the host community.

📍A Community Development Agreement helps to:

✅ Promote sustainable community development.

✅ Support the provision of social services and infrastructure.

✅ Create local employment and business opportunities.

✅ Foster transparency, dialogue and good relations between mining companies and communities.

📌Community Development Agreements ensure that mineral resources contribute to the long-term development and well-being of host communities.

🔍 𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗗𝗼 𝗠𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗖𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝗟𝗮𝗿𝗴𝗲 𝗥𝗼𝗰𝗸 𝗦𝗮𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲𝘀 𝗗𝘂𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗘𝘅𝗽𝗹𝗼𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻❓️

🤔Many people wonder why mining companies sometimes collect and export hundreds of tonnes of rock during mineral exploration.

📌The simple answer is: 𝗶𝘁'𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴, 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴.

📍𝗗𝘂𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗶𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗱𝘆 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗴𝗲, 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘁𝘀 𝗰𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝗯𝘂𝗹𝗸 𝗿𝗼𝗰𝗸 𝘀𝗮𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗱𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗲:

✅ How the ore responds to processing.

✅ How much of the valuable mineral can be recovered.

✅ Whether the ore is consistent across the deposit.

✅ Whether the project is technically and economically viable.

🎯Although a bulk sample may sound large, it represents only a tiny fraction of the mineral deposit.

✅️For example, a 200-tonne sample from a 10-million-tonne resource is just 0.002% of the total deposit.

⛏️Think of it like a medical test: just as a small blood sample helps doctors assess a person's health, a bulk rock sample helps scientists and engineers understand a mineral deposit before any major investment or mining begins.

📌It is also important to understand that, at the exploration stage, there is no processing plant at the site.

📌The samples are sent to specialised laboratories for testing because the information they provide not the rock itself is what matters.
