MEC CELEBRATES RECOGNITION OF DIRECTOR OF MEDIA AND PUBLIC RELATIONS

The Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) congratulates its Director of Media and Public Relations, Mr Sangwani Mwafulirwa, on being honoured with the Public Communication & Access to Information Legacy Award by the Media Council of Malawi (MCM).

The award, presented as part of the MCM@30 celebrations, recognises Mr Mwafulirwa's sustained contribution to public communication, media relations and access to information, including efforts to strengthen communication between public institutions, the media and citizens. The MCM@30 awards recognise long-term impact and contribution to Malawi's media and public communication landscape over the 30-year legacy of the Media Council of Malawi.

MEC joins colleagues and stakeholders in celebrating this achievement and recognises Mr Mwafulirwa's contribution to strengthening public information, media engagement, transparency, accountability and the public's right to know. The Commission wishes him continued success as he contributes to effective public communication in support of Malawi's electoral democracy

FAKE FRESH ELECTIONS CALENDAR

The Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) wishes to clarify that it has not released a revised electoral calendar indicating a new polling date for the Fresh Elections in Nsanje South and Mangochi East Constituencies.

Accordingly, the document currently circulating on social media purporting to provide a revised polling date should be disregarded as it is not an official communication from the Commission.

MEC appeals to all stakeholders and members of the public to refrain from circulating or sharing the document and to rely only on official information issued through the Commission’s authorised communication channels.

The Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) has been recognised as the Outstanding Institution by the Political Science Association of Malawi (PSA) for its sustained contribution to democratisation, electoral governance and democratic development in Malawi.

The Chairperson of the Malawi Electoral Commission, Hon. Justice Annabel Mtalimanja, today officially opened the 4th Biennial Conference of the Political Science Association (PSA) at Sunbird Livingstonia in Salima.

Speaking under the theme “Malawi’s Democracy at the Crossroads? Maturing Institutions or a Tailspin into Uncertainty?”, Justice Mtalimanja called for reflection on Malawi’s democratic journey and strengthening of democratic institutions, the rule of law and citizen participation.

She encouraged the PSA to draw lessons from the 2025 General Elections and contribute research and practical recommendations that can strengthen Malawi’s electoral and democratic systems.

Justice Mtalimanja also challenged the Association to take political science beyond academic spaces and make its knowledge more accessible and relevant to ordinary Malawians. She congratulated the PSA on its 15th anniversary and officially declared the conference open.

MEC CHAIRPERSON TO OFFICIALLY OPEN PSA 4TH BIENNIAL CONFERENCE

The Chairperson of the Malawi Electoral Commission, Hon. Justice Annabel Mtalimanja, will on Saturday, 26 September 2026, officially open the 4th Biennial Conference of the Political Science Association (PSA) at Sunbird Livingstonia in Salima.

The conference, running from 26–27 September 2026, is being held under the theme: “ Malawi’s Democracy at the Crossroads? Maturing Institutions or a Tailspin into Uncertainty?”

The Commission wishes the Political Science Association and all participants a successful and thought-provoking conference.
