PPDA FOR STRATEGIC GOVERNMENT COMMUNICATION

The Public Procurement and Disposal of Public Assets Authority (PPDA) on Wednesday 5th August attended the Co-Creation workshop which Government organized for Public Relations and Communications Managers and Officers for State-Owned Enterprises, Statutory Corporations and Government Agencies.

The workshop was organized by the Ministry of Information and Communications Technology and was held under the theme Building Effective Communication for National Development.

Minister of Information and Communications Technology, Dr. Shadric Namalomba emphasized that communication is no longer an accessory to governance, but an essential pillar of good governance, public accountability and national development.

Director of Government Communication Deogratias Mmana implored on the communications experts in the parastatals not to work in isolation, saying they have a responsibility to deliver on the National Development Agenda through the respective mandates of their institutions.

Speaking on the significance of the workshop, PPDA Public Relations and Communications Manager, Mandy Pondani, described it as timely as the Authority continues to champion one of Government's Public Procurement Reforms through the Malawi National Electronic Procurement System (MANePS.

The workshop further provided an opportunity for participants to explore emerging issues affecting public sector communication, including crisis communication and institutional branding among others.

The Public Procurement and Disposal of Assets Authority (PPDA), on 15th and 16th joined the Public Relations Society of Malawi (PRSM) and Communication Professionals to commemorate the World Public Relations Day 2026, a celebration that also marked the 10th Anniversary of the PRSM.

The event featured a PR and Strategic Communications Masterclass held under the theme "Trust Under Pressure: Balancing AI, Authenticity, and Reputation in a Digitally Scrutinised World."

The Masterclass according to the Authority's Public Relations and Communications Manager Mandy Pondani provided valuable insights into ethical communication, reputation management, artificial intelligence and strategic leadership among others.

"Communication is at the heart of every successful reform. As PPDA drives the implementation of MANePS, we recognise that our role extends beyond sharing information we must educate, engage, build confidence and ensure every stakeholder understands and embraces the transformation taking place in public procurement," Pondani said.

She added that as the Authority continues implementing the Malawi National Electronic Procurement System (MANePS), effective communication remains critical in building trust, enhancing stakeholder engagement, increasing public awareness, and supporting the successful adoption of digital procurement across Malawi.

Speaking during the commemorations, PRSM President Rachel Mhango said in as much as AI can generate information in a matter of seconds it cannot manufacture trust as such she called on her members to remain vigilant, creative and trust conscious.

POWERING OF LOCAL VOICES
During Awareness Campaigns in Chitipa, Karonga and Mzuzu, we partnered with Tuntufye Community Radio to amplify key messages on the Malawi National Electronic Procurement System (MANePS.

Community radios remain a valuable communication partner for PPDA because they bring information closer to the people. Through the use of local languages , familiar voices and interactive discussions.

Community radio stations help simplify complex messages and create meaningful conversations with citizens, suppliers and other stakeholders.

PPDA SHOWCASES MANePS AT CONSTRUCTION DAY

The Public Procurement and Disposal of Assets Authority (PPDA) today joined key players in Malawi's construction industry in commemorating the 2026 National Construction Day at the Bingu International Convention Centre (BICC) in Lilongwe.

Organized by the Construction Industry Regulatory Authority (CIRA) under the theme "People, Quality and Innovation: Building a Legacy," the event was presided over by the Minister of Transport and Public Works, Honorable Jappie Mhango, MP, who called on stakeholders to uphold quality standards in infrastructure development.

During a tour of the PPDA exhibition pavilion, PPDA's Review and Regulatory Manager, Gerald Mabveka, briefed Honorable Mhango on the significant progress made in implementing the Malawi National Electronic Procurement System (MANePS) since its official rollout on 1 April 2026.

Mabveka highlighted the encouraging uptake of the system, noting that approximately 6,000 suppliers have already registered on the portal, demonstrating growing confidence in Electronic Government Procurement.

In response, Honorable Mhango commended the Authority for the strides made and assured PPDA that he would continue encouraging relevant stakeholders to embrace MANePS, recognizing its importance in promoting efficiency, transparency and value for money in public procurement.

PPDA's Acting Director General, Timothy Kalembo, and Board Member, Johnny J. Somba, also visited the Authority's pavilion to appreciate the innovations and information being showcased.
