Public Relations Society of Malawi (PRSM) has awarded Chief Secretary to the government Justin Saidi Honorary Fellow award at its 10th anniversary annual general conference Gala Dinner in Salima

Saidi dedicated the Award to State President Prof. Arthur Peter Mutharika for believing in him to champion the civil service.

The chief Secretary has since pledged a donation of two sets of uniform for Football and Netball to PRSM.

The Electricity Generation Company (Malawi) Limited (EGENCO) has commenced restoration works on the 20-megawatt (MW) Unit 6 at Nkula B Hydropower Station, which has been offline for five weeks following a breakdown.

The restoration works follows the arrival of a critical spare part (the shaft). The works are expected to be completed by end of October 2026.

The unit has remained on forced outage to facilitate the replacement of worn-out thrust bearing pads and corrective maintenance on the turbine assembly. The restoration of Unit 6 is expected to return 20MW of generation capacity to the national grid.

Second Vice President Enock Chihana has commended the Catholic Church for its contribution to the development of the country through interventions in various sectors, including health, agriculture and education.

Chihana made the remarks on Saturday at Mzuzu Stadium after attending the National Centenary Celebration of World Mission Sunday.

Chihana also commended the Church for promoting peace and unity in the country, saying peace is a prerequisite for development.

Minister of Information and Communications Technology, Dr Shadric Namalomba, has reaffirmed government commitment to inclusive education during visits to Embangweni Secondary School for the Deaf and Lojwa Community Day Secondary School (CDSS) in Mzimba.

Through Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (MACRA)’s Connect a School Project, learners at both schools are now accessing computers and laptops, giving them greater access to digital learning resources and supporting improved academic performance.

At Embangweni, the initiative is helping ensure that learners with hearing impairments are part of Malawi’s digital transformation and have equal opportunities to learn, develop skills and succeed in their education.

Minister of Information and Communications Technology Dr Shadric Namalomba has commended Radio Listening Clubs and Zokonda Amayi groups for helping communities take charge of their own development and putting the Malawi 2063 agenda into action at grassroots level.

Namalomba made the commendation today in Rumphi after visiting Bumba Radio Listening Club and Rumphi Zokonda Amayi group.

MBC facilitates over 150 Radio Listening Clubs and 193 Zokonda Amayi groups across Malawi where they do farming, irrigation, bridge rehabilitation, supporting needy families and fighting early marriages. The Minister called for the groups to be linked to MEDF and the Universal Service Fund through MACRA for further support.

Government has bemoaned the death of former Acting Paramount Chief Chikulamayembe Mtima Gondwe , saying the country has lost a champion for development.

Speaking on Thursday during the funeral ceremony in Rumphi, Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Dr. Ben Phiri who represented President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika described the chief as development conscious, adding that the chief had died when the country and his area needed him more to lead in development.

The Second Vice President, Enock Chihana and several cabinet ministers, government officials and chiefs also attended the funeral ceremony

Minister of Information and Communications Technology Dr Shadric Namalomba has commended Radio Listening Clubs and Zokonda Amayi groups for putting people at the centre of development in line with the Malawi 2063 agenda.

Namalomba said this on Thursday when he visited Bumba Radio Listening Club and the Rumphi Zokonda Amayi group, both established by Malawi Broadcasting Corporation (MBC).

The national broadcaster has 193 Zokonda Amayi groups and 150 radio listening clubs across the country.

Their activities include farming, irrigation, rehabilitating bridges, building houses for needy families and ending early marriages.

The Minister has since called on government officials to link the groups to financial and development opportunities, including the Malawi Enterprise Development Fund (MEDF) and Constituency Development Fund( CDF).
