Censorship Board Malawi The Censorship Board was established in 1968, it draws mandate from the Censorship and Control of Entertainment Act. (2).

The Censorship Board is mandated to regulate films & public entertainment with the aim of protecting children & vulnerable adults against negative effects of films & entertainment material and to safeguard Malawi's public morals & cultural values.🇲🇼 The Censorship Board
currently is a division of the Department of Art in the Ministry of Local Government, Unity and Culture. The Censorship Board

is currently undergoing modernization by moving away from censoring to classification of publications and artistic content. The Censorship Board offers three main services: (1). Regulation and control of filmmaking and exhibition. Regulation of public entertainment i.e., both facilities and performances. (3) Regulation of importation, production, dissemination of undesirable films, publications and similar materials.

Gwamba is setting the standard 👏

On 1st August, 2026, Gwamba will be hosting a massive concert titled “Landlord Pakwao Concert ” at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe. The night will feature Nigerian star R***r alongside some of Malawi’s finest artists.

True to his professionalism, Gwamba has already notified the Malawi Censorship Board and applied for an entertainment permit as required by the Entertainment Act of Malawi.

For clarity: permits are currently MK 5,000 for local shows and MK 20,000 for shows with an international artist.
