The 6th President of the Republic of Malawi and President of the Malawi Congress Party, Dr. Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera is today joining mourners in Dedza for the burial of former University of Malawi Vice-Chancellor, Professor Zimani David Kadzamira.

​The late professor who passed away on September 18, 2026 is being laid to rest at Kanchezi Village in Linthipe 3.

He was the brother of Mama Cecilia Tamanda Kadzamira, Official Hostess to Malawi’s founding President, Dr. Hastings Kamuzu Banda.

The Malawi Congress Party (MCP) today held a high-level management meeting at its headquarters as part of preparations for tomorrow’s National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting.

The meeting focused on strengthening the party, consolidating its structures, sharpening its political strategy and setting a clear direction for the party’s future.

With the NEC meeting expected to deliberate on key political and organisational matters, MCP leadership is positioning the party for stronger coordination, renewed unity and a more focused approach to advancing its political agenda.

The letter circulating on social media regarding Hon. Richard Chimwendo Banda is completely FAKE and did not come from the Office of the Secretary General.

Hon. Chimwendo Banda has not resigned from his position as Secretary General of the Malawi Congress Party.

Those eyeing the position must follow party procedures and wait for the next convention to compete.
