KACODO RECEIVED K183,000,000.00 GRANT
Yesterday, Kapiri Community Development Organization (KACODO) hosted the official grant handover ceremony. The event was held in Mchilumba Village, Traditional Authority Dambe, Mchinji, symbolizing ActionAid Malawi commitment to fighting poverty and injustice in rural communities.
KACODO, together with other partners, will receive a total of 1.3 billion Malawi Kwacha in support. Speaking at the function, Linda Kabanda, Executive Director of KACODO, expressed gratitude for the support. She noted that the funding will address issues of womenβs and girlsβ rights, economic justice, and climate justice for rural communities through various targeted interventions.
ActionAid Malawi Director, Yandula Chipeta, emphasized that the grants must be used strictly for their intended purposes. She explained that the Local Rights Program is a strategic initiative designed to empower local NGOs to lead development work in their own areas. This approach promotes social justice by actively engaging local people in the implementation of development activities.
The primary source of these funds is the Child Sponsorship Program run by ActionAid Malawi in its Local Rights Programs.
The handover ceremony attracted several development partners in the district, including the Vice Chairperson of the Mchinji District Council, the District Commissioner, civil society organizations, and local leaders.
