Skema ta’ għajnuna finanzjarja lil individwi jew organizzazzjonijiet sabiex jikru proprjetà fejn jinbnew karrijiet tal-karnival jew maskri grotteski għall-Karnival Reġjonali ta’ Għawdex 2027.

Bl-għan li jkompli jissaħħaħ il-Karnival f’Għawdex bħala attività kulturali li tattira udjenza minn Għawdex, Malta u minn barra, u għalhekk ukoll tagħti kontribut ekonomiku lil Għawdex, il-Ministeru għal Għawdex u l-Ippjanar qed jerġa’ jniedi skema li permezz tagħha se jgħin lil individwi jew organizzazzjonijiet jikru proprjetà li tista’ tintuża biex jinbnew karrijiet tal-karnival jew maskri grotteski.

Kull applikant jista’ jingħata għotja sa massimu ta’ ħamsa u għoxrin elf ewro (€25,000) fis-sena jekk jibni karrijiet fis-Sezzjonijiet A u B, u sa massimu ta’ għaxart elef ewro (€10,000) fis-sena jekk jibni maskri grotteski jew karrijiet fis-Sezzjoni Ċ. Fiż-żewġ każijiet, l-għotja tkopri l-kera tal-post.

L-Iskema se tkun miftuħa għal xahar mid-data tal-pubblikazzjoni.

L-applikazzjoni għandha ssir biss online fil-website https://gozo.gov.mt . Fil-website wieħed isib mehmużin il-Linji Gwida u r-Regolamenti tal-Iskema, inklużi l-kriterji ta’ eliġibbiltà.

A financial assistance scheme is being launched to support individuals and organisations in renting a property where floats or grotesque masks can be constructed for the Gozo Regional Carnival 2027.

With the aim of further strengthening Carnival in Gozo as a cultural event that attracts audiences from Gozo, Malta, and abroad—while also contributing to Gozo’s economy—the Ministry for Gozo and Planning is reintroducing a scheme that helps individuals and organisations cover the cost of renting premises to build carnival floats or grotesque masks.

Each applicant may receive a grant of up to twenty-five thousand euros (€25,000) per year for the construction of floats in Sections A and B, and up to ten thousand euros (€10,000) per year for the construction of grotesque masks or floats in Section C. In both cases, the grant is intended to cover the rental costs of the premises.

The scheme will remain open for one month from the date of its publication.

Applications must be submitted exclusively online through the website https://gozo.gov.mt, where the Scheme’s Guidelines and Regulations, including the eligibility criteria, are available.

Cittadella is one of the elements of Malta’s recently submitted draft nomination to the World Heritage List entitled: ‘The Maltese Fortifications of the Knights of St John’. The site is being nominated on the principle that its medieval fortifications were renovated at successive intervals and updated to the ‘alla moderna’ technology by the Order during their occupation of the island. These fortifications reflect of the Order’s nature, connections and history.

The first draft of this application has now reached the UNESCO World Heritage Centre, who will provide its preliminary feedback before the final submission by the 1st February 2026 deadline. The application will subsequently move on for evaluation by the international advisory bodies of the World Heritage Centre and eventually voted upon by the World Heritage Committee made up of 21 member states parties to the 1972 Convention.

It-8 ta’ Settembru hija data importanti fil-kalendarju tal-festi tal-pajjiż. F’din il-festa nazzjonali, li lokalment tissejjaħ kemm “Il-Vitorja”, kif ukoll “Il-Bambina”, isiru diversi ċelebrazzjonijiet biex jimmarkaw ġrajja reliġjuża u tliet ġrajjiet storiċi.

Ir-rebħiet storiċi ċċelebrati, f’ordni kronoloġika huma: it-trijonf tal-Kavallieri ta’ San Ġwann waqt l-Assedju l-Kbir kontra t-Torok Ottomani fl-1565, ir-ribelljoni tan-nazzjon waqt l-okkupazzjoni Franċiża ta’ Malta f’Settembru 1800, u t-tmiem tal-ostilitajiet tal-Italja fil-konfront tal-Alleati fl-1943, waqt it-Tieni Gwerra Dinjija.

Il-Ħadd filgħodu, il-pjazza tax-Xagħra laqgħet lill-banda u żewġ stakkamenti tal-Forzi Armati ta’ Malta li ffurmaw gwardja tal-unur li tat l-ewwel is-salut ġenerali lill-Kap Kmandant, u mbagħad is-salut nazzjonali lill-Eċċellenza Tagħha l-President tar-Repubblika. Minnufih wara, l-Eċċellenza Tagħha Myriam Spiteri Debono, spezzjonat il-gwardja tal-unur.

Fl-9.45am, sar pontifikal solenni fil-Bażilika Kolleġġjata tax-Xagħra, ippresedut mill-Eċċellenza Tagħha l-President tar-Repubblika. Il-pontifikal tmexxa mill-Isqof ta’ Għawdex Anton Teuma, li matulu tkanta t-Te Deum.

Wara, fil-pjazza, saret kommemorazzjoni li kienet tinkludi reenactments mix-Xagħra Historical Reeanactment Organisation, marċi mill-Banda tal-Korp tal-Pulizija ta’ Malta, gwardja tal-unur mill-AFM u ċerimonja tat-tqegħid ta’ kuruni.

September 8th is an important date in the country’s festive calendar. On this national holiday, which is locally known as both “Il-Vitorja” and “Il-Bambina”, various celebrations are held to mark a religious event and three historical events.

The historical victories celebrated, in chronological order, are: the triumph of the Knights of St. John during the Great Siege against the Ottoman Turks in 1565, the national rebellion during the French occupation of Malta in September 1800, and the end of Italian hostilities with the Allies in 1943, during World War II.

On Sunday morning, the square in Xagħra hosted a ceremonial welcome featuring a band and two detachments from the Armed Forces of Malta, who formed a guard of honour. The ceremony began with a general salute to the Commander-in-Chief, followed by the national salute to Her Excellency the President of the Republic. Immediately afterward, Her Excellency Myriam Spiteri Debono inspected the guard of honour.

At 9:45 a.m., a solemn pontifical service took place at the Collegiate Basilica of Xagħra, presided over by Her Excellency the President of the Republic. The pontificial service was led by the Bishop of Gozo Anton Teuma, during which the Te Deum was sung.

Following the service, a commemorative event was held in the square, featuring historical reenactments by the Xagħra Historical Reenactment Organisation, musical performances by the Malta Police Force Band, a guard of honour by the Armed Forces of Malta, and a wreath-laying ceremony.

Today in History

On 15th August 1942, the SS Ohio, the last surviving vessel of Operation Pedestal, a military escorted convoy of supply ships, managed to enter the Grand Harbour. Operation Pedestal brought to the Maltese Islands desperately needed supplies, namely aviation fuel, petrol, kerosene, medical supplies, and food. The British convoy had lost 13 ships, 34 aircraft, and up to 550 lives to Axis attacks while venturing in the Mediterrean sea.

In the Maltese islands the convoy is known as "Il-Konvoj ta' Santa Marija".

Fid-9 t’Awwissu 1905 twieldet Mary Meylak, poetessa u kittieba Għawdxija. Nistgħu ngħidu li kienet l-unika vuċi femminili fost il-poeti Romantiċi Maltin tal-ewwel nofs tas-seklu għoxrin u tħaddan it-titlu tal-ewwel poetessa Maltija.

Fl-Istorja tal-Letteratura Maltija, Mary Meylak għandha niċċa interessanti u unika. Il-poeżija tagħha hi bħal tal-għannejja u qrib dik li joħolqu t-tfal, b’ħakma bla waqfien tar-rima u versi melodjużi u sempliċi. Fost it-temi prinċipali ta’ Meylak insibu l-fantasija, in-natura u r-reliġjon u ta' spiss naraw jispikkaw it-tradizzjonijiet tagħna.
