The NSO was proud to sponsor and contribute to the 5th ISI Regional Statistics Conference 2026, held between 2–5 June.

Throughout the conference, NSO experts shared their knowledge and experience across a wide range of statistical fields. Presentations and sessions were delivered by Etienne Caruana, Vanessa Dimech, Jennifer Vassallo, Josianne Galea, Martina Vassallo, Lara Friggieri Cordina, Dorothy Galea Gauci, Denise Magrin, Mikhail Azzopardi, David Paul Dimech, Andrew Formosa, Anne Marie Pace and Christine Tabone.

Topics discussed included National Accounts Methods, Tourism Statistics, statistical literacy, quality in official statistics, poverty measurement, population projections, statistical disclosure control, commercial price indices and GIS applications in statistics, reflecting the breadth of work carried out at the NSO.

The NSO was represented at the European Conference on Quality in Official Statistics (3–5 June, Šibenik, Croatia), held under the theme “Enhancing Trust, Shaping the Future.”

Sarah Gusman, Sarah Micallef, Sam Sacco, and Silvan Zammit participated in the conference, with NSO contributing through the Programme Committee, chairing Session 7 – Building Quality Through Standards and Session 40 – Innovating Data Collection Methods and Sources, and presenting “Untangling the bottleneck: The NSO’s bold shift to smarter, decentralised statistical production.”

A valuable opportunity to exchange experiences and contribute to discussions on the future of official statistics.

Today, we kicked off in Valletta with three expert-led Short Courses, offering participants the opportunity to dive deeper into key topics across statistics and data science in a practical, interactive setting.

A strong start to several days of learning, exchange and networking in Malta.

Tomorrow morning, the official opening of the 5th ISI Regional Statistics Conference 2026 will take place, starting with the Opening Ceremony at 9:00 AM, followed by the Opening Plenary Talk by Etienne Caruana, Director General of the National Statistics Office Malta.

We look forward to welcoming everyone and starting the conference together!
