🌟 Collaborative Teaching Sessions with PSD Educators 🌟

A number of Practice Nurses (Navigators) from SAMOC, together with a Charge Nurse from the NMSD and a Midwifery Lecturer at the University of Malta, recently delivered engaging sessions to PSD teachers.

These sessions focused on sharing expertise, fostering collaboration, and supporting the integration of health-related knowledge within the educational setting.

👏 We extend our appreciation to all facilitators for their valuable contribution and to the PSD teachers for their active participation.

Ġiet introdotta l-Insulin Pump Clinic, klinika ġdida li toffri appoġġ speċjalizzat lil persuni bid-dijabete. Claire Catanzaro, il-koordinatriċi tal-klinika, tispjega kif il-pompa tal-insulina tista' tadatta għall-ħtiġijiet individwali ta' kull persuna, sabiex tgħin fil-ġestjoni aħjar tad-dijabete. Flimkien ma' Moira Grixti mid-Dipartiment tal-Edukazzjoni dwar id-Dijabete f' Mater Dei Hospital, ser naraw id- dedikazzjoni ta' dawn il-ħaddiema li joffru appogg kontinwu lil persuna li jbatu mid-dijabete. Wahda mill-inizjattivi fost ohrajn tal-Insulin pump clinic hija il-karattru helu ta' "Zokkrinu" – teddy bear speċjali li jingħata lit-tfal zghar biex joffrilhom appoġġ u għajnuna fil-vjaġġ tagħhom mad-dijabete.

🔬🧠✨ Inspiring Young Minds at the Primary Science Fair 2026! ✨🧠🔬

The Nursing and Midwifery Services Directorate was proud to contribute to the Primary Science Fair 2026, organised by the Directorate for STEM & VET Programmes.

The Primary Science Fair 2026 was a vibrant showcase of curiosity and STEM learning, with engaging activities and innovative stands for all attendees. The daily mental health and wellbeing stand, supported by community nursing and allied health professionals, encouraged students to explore healthy coping strategies through interactive ‘Mental Health toolbox’.

At the creating products stand, children experienced hands-on learning and left proudly wearing a plaster slab applied by a dedicated team of orthopaedic experts: charge nurse, paediatric orthopaedic surgeon, nursing and allied health professionals.

The demonstration of Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation offered a fascinating glimpse into the science of magnetism, while the heartbeat stand, featured a range of heart-related exhibits. These stands were staffed by charge nurses, charge midwives, students, emergency responders and allied health.

Practice nurses and allied health at the clean hands workshop utilised a UV light box and petri dishes for interaction with the students.

Each stand contributed to a memorable day of discovery, inspiring young minds to embrace science in everyday life.

Case Study Session Series | Case #2: Detecting Deterioration in Real-Time

At Mater Dei Hospital, the Rapid Response Team is leading the way in practice development.

The Rapid Response Team is a specialised clinical team trained to recognise and respond to patients whose condition is deteriorating, stepping in early before things become critical. Keeping that skill sharp across the hospital takes consistent, focused work, and that is exactly what this series is about.

Building on the first case in the series, Case #2, has brought ward leaders together over four sessions to work through real clinical scenarios. The aim is straightforward: to build the judgement and confidence needed to act at the earliest signs that a patient needs help. Ward leaders who attended have already asked for more sessions.

💬 "Well done! I truly hope that these sessions leave the much needed impact on charge nurses and eventually nurses, for our patients' sake." | Charge Nurse, Mater Dei Hospital

With the Charge Nurse sessions now complete, the series opens to all Senior Nurses and Staff Nurses across the hospital. The earlier deterioration is recognised, wherever the patient is, the better the outcome.

We look forward to sharing more similar updates.

Serje ta' Sessjonijiet dwar ezempji prattiċi | Eżempju nru. 2: L-Identifikazzjoni tad-Deterjorament f'Ħin Reali

Fl-Isptar Mater Dei, ir-'Rapid Response Team' qiegħed jieħu rwol ta’ tmexxija fl-iżvilupp tal-prattika.

Ir-'Rapid Response Team' huwa tim kliniku speċjalizzat imħarreġ biex jagħraf u jirrispondi għal pazjenti li l-kundizzjoni tagħhom tkun qed tiddeterjora u jkun involut minn kmieni, qabel mas-sitwazzjoni ssir kritika.

Li tinżamm dik il-ħila f'livell għoli madwar l-isptar kollu titlob xogħol konsistenti u ffukat, u dan hu eżattament dak li qed toffri din is-serje.

Wara l-ewwel każ li ġie ndirizzat fis-serje, it-tieni eżempju, ġabar flimkien il-kapijiet tas-swali, ġewwa l-Isptar Mater Dei, f'erba' sessjonijiet biex jaħdmu fuq xenarji kliniċi reali. L-għan huwa sempliċi: li jinbena l-ġudizzju u l-fiduċja meħtieġa biex dak li jkun jaġixxi fl-ewwel sinjali li pazjent ikun jeħtieġ l-għajnuna.

Il-kapijiet tas-swali li attendew diġà talbu aktar sessjonijiet.

💬 "Prosit! Nittama bl-akbar sinċerità li dawn is-sessjonijiet iħallu l-impatt meħtieġ fuq l-infermiera inkarigati u eventwalment fuq l-infermier, għall-ġid tal-pazjenti tagħna." Infermier inkarigat/a, L-Isptar Mater Dei

Happy Birthday to the "Lady with the Lamp," Florence Nightingale! 🕯️✨

Today, we celebrate **International Nurses Day**—a time to honor the incredible dedication, resilience, and compassion of nurses everywhere. 🩺💙

Florence Nightingale once said that nursing is an art, and it requires as exclusive a devotion as any painter's or sculptor's work. To all the nurses out there: thank you for the heart you put into every shift.

**May we all strive to become "artists of care" in our own lives.** 🎨🏥

Join us in wishing a **Happy Nurses Day** to the healthcare heroes who keep us going! Help us celebrate by tagging a nurse who has made a difference in your life in the comments below. 👇
