🇲🇹 10 ta’ Settembru 2026

Din l-Art Ħelwa tappoġġja l-protesta ta’ solidarjetà: id-difiża tal-wirt tagħna tfisser id-difiża tas-saltna tad-dritt.

Din l-Art Ħelwa, l-organizzazzjoni nazzjonali għall-ħarsien tal-wirt ta’ Malta, tħabbar li qed tagħti l-appoġġ formali tagħha lill-protesta nazzjonali ta’ solidarjetà li se ssir fis-16 ta’ Settembru u li se tipparteċipa fiha. Din id-deċiżjoni ttieħdet wara kunsiderazzjoni bir-reqqa mill-Kunsill u hija msejsa fuq l-impenn sod tagħna għall-ħarsien tal-wirt kulturali u naturali ta’ Malta.

Il-parteċipazzjoni tagħna mhijiex att politiku, iżda estensjoni meħtieġa tal-missjoni tagħna. Għal aktar minn sittin sena, Din l-Art Ħelwa qdiet ir-rwol ta’ għassies tal-Gżejjer Maltin. Dejjem għedna l-verità lil dawk fil-poter dwar il-qerda tal-wirt mibni tagħna, id-degradazzjoni tal-ambjent naturali tagħna u l-importanza ta’ governanza tajba fl-ippjanar u fl-iżvilupp. Naħdmu biex niddefendu s-saltna tad-dritt fil-ħarsien tal-wirt u tal-ambjent tagħna u biex niżguraw li l-istituzzjonijiet jinżammu responsabbli għal għemilhom.

Il-wirt u l-kampanja tagħna ma jistgħux jitħarsu f’klima ta’ impunità. Is-saltna tad-dritt hija l-pedament ewlieni li fuqu tistrieħ il-protezzjoni tal-wirt tagħna. Mingħajr sistema tal-ġustizzja li tiffunzjona u stampa ħielsa, l-oqfsa legali maħsuba biex jipproteġu l-ambjent u s-siti storiċi tagħna jitilfu kull tifsira. L-assassinju ta’ ġurnalista li ddedikat ħajjitha biex tikxef il-korruzzjoni jirrappreżenta attakk dirett fuq il-pilastri tad-demokrazija u tal-ġustizzja li jagħmlu possibbli l-ħidma tagħna b’risq il-wirt.

Għaldaqstant, Din l-Art Ħelwa tqis li l-ħarsien tas-saltna tad-dritt huwa marbut b’mod intrinsiku mad-difiża tal-wirt tagħna. Nesprimu s-solidarjetà tagħna mal-familja Caruana Galizia u maċ-ċittadini kollha li jesiġu l-verità u l-kontabbiltà. Nistiednu lill-membri tagħna u lill-pubbliku biex jingħaqdu magħna fis-16 ta’ Settembru ħalli nuru li ta’ min niġġieldu għall-wirt ta’ Malta, sew jekk ikun l-istorja tagħha, l-ambjent tagħha jew id-demokrazija tagħha.

Din l-Art Ħelwa Endorses Solidarity Protest: Defending Heritage Means Defending the Rule of Law

Din l-Art Ħelwa National Trust for Malta, announces that it is formally endorsing and participating in the national solidarity protest scheduled for 16 September. This decision follows careful consideration by the Council and is rooted in our steadfast commitment to the preservation of Malta’s heritage, both cultural and natural.

Our participation is not a political act, but a necessary extension of our mission. For over six decades, Din l-Art Ħelwa has acted as a watchdog for the Maltese Islands. We have consistently spoken truth to power regarding the destruction of our built heritage, the degradation of our natural environment and the importance of good governance in planning and development. We work to uphold the rule of law in the protection of our heritage and environment and seek to hold institutions accountable.

Our heritage and countryside cannot be safeguarded in a climate of impunity. The rule of law is the ultimate foundation upon which the protection of our heritage rests. Without a functioning justice system and a free press, the legal frameworks designed to protect our environment and historical sites become meaningless. The assassination of a journalist who dedicated her life to uncovering corruption represents a direct assault on the pillars of democracy and justice that make our heritage work possible.

Therefore, Din l-Art Ħelwa views the upholding of the rule of law as intrinsically linked to the defence of our heritage. We stand in solidarity with the Caruana Galizia family and with all citizens who demand truth and accountability. We invite our members and the public to join us on 16 September to demonstrate that Malta’s heritage, be it its history, its environment or its democracy is worth fighting for.
