Positive updates on Ta' Xbiex Beach situation ✔️

Following reports on media regarding the Ta' Xbiex public beach, we wanted to immediately update and clarify the situation. This morning we have received feedback from the Department of Health Regulation following enquiries done by the local council.

The Department of Health Regulation stated that on the 4th of June there was a report of overflow of foul water and a sign was affixed to avoid bathing in Ta' Xbiex beach. One week after, exactly on the 11th of June, following 3 consecutive sample tests, it was decided that beach is safe to use and the relevant authorities removed the sign. Thank you for your attention.

With reference to application PA/03185/26, the Ta' Xbiex Local Council has objected and participated actively in a petition that was lately circulated by individuals with our residents.

This application relates to a proposed hostel and restaurant in Triq il-Watar, a quiet residential street housing hundreds of families. We cannot support such development, which will eventually lead to 24-hr commercial activity characterised by loss of parking, tourist activity, noise pollution, odours, lack of natural sunlight due to the height proposed and other disrupting factors.

Following these objections, the application is currently suspended. We will inform you on progress in due course. Thank you.

🇲🇹🇪🇺 The Local Councils’ Association was represented by Mr. Max Zammit, Mayor of Ta’ Xbiex and LCA Member, at the CEMR Policy Leaders Summit in Rovaniemi, Finland. 🤝

🗣️ The sessions featured political debates among representatives and policy committee members, focusing on the future EU budget and UCLG priorities.

✍️ During the summit, Mr. Max Zammit signed, on behalf of Malta, the CEMR Political Declaration, which emphasizes:

🔹 Cohesion
🔹 Competitiveness
🔹 Global Partnerships

The declaration, which outlines local and regional government priorities for the next EU budget, was approved unanimously by participating members. ✅

🌍 The summit provided an important platform for local government leaders to contribute to discussions shaping the future of European cooperation and sustainable development.

🇲🇹 The LCA remains committed to ensuring that Malta’s local councils have a strong voice in European policymaking and that local perspectives continue to contribute to shaping the future of Europe. 🤝
