A productive first day in Liverpool, advancing Malta-UK collaboration and strengthening ties between two outward-looking, innovation-driven economies.
Today’s programme focused on investment, innovation, and sectoral engagement across advanced manufacturing, digital and tech industries, as well as hospitality and tourism.
The day opened with welcome remarks by Peter Schriewersmann (Liverpool Lead), an introduction to Malta by Ms Tania T. Brown, CEO of TradeMalta, and a keynote address by HE Professor Stephen Montefort, High Commissioner of Malta to the UK.
In her address, Ms Brown emphasized the importance of transforming dialogue into practical, long-term collaboration. She highlighted the strong parallels between Malta and Liverpool as entrepreneurial economies connected through trade, innovation, and international outlook, positioning Malta not only as a destination, but as a strategic partner.
The programme also included an economic overview of the Liverpool City Region and a panel discussion titled 'The Case for Investment and Closer Collaboration between Liverpool City Region and Malta.' Panellists included, TradeMalta Chairman Mr. Daniel Galea, Mr. Winston Zahra, successful Maltese investor in the UK, Malta Enterprise Envoy Mr. Peter Meli, alongside representatives from the Liverpool Chamber of Commerce and Liverpool City Council.
The afternoon featured sector-focused breakout sessions, providing UK and Maltese delegations with valuable opportunities for meaningful discussions on shared strengths, common challenges, and future areas of collaboration.
The mission now continues to Wrexham, building on today’s momentum in forging more meaningful long-term partnerships.
