L-Assoċjazzjoni Kunsilli Lokali tinnota l-ħatra tas-Segretarju Permanenti, is-Sur Emile Vassallo, u tawguralu kull suċċess fil-ħatra l-ġdida tiegħu.

Fl-istess waqt, l-Assoċjazzjoni tirringrazzja lis-Sur Kevin Mahoney għall-ħidma u l-kontribut tiegħu fis-settur tal-Gvern Lokali.

L-Assoċjazzjoni tħares ’il quddiem lejn aktar ħidma sabiex il-prinċipji li dejjem mexxew il-ħidma tagħha; is-sussidjarjetà, id-deċentralizzazzjoni u t-tisħiħ tad-demokrazija lokali; jibqgħu fiċ-ċentru tal-ħidma tagħha, flimkien mal-imsieħba kollha fis-settur.

Dan għaliex nemmnu bis-sħiħ li l-Kunsilli Lokali, meta jingħataw l-għodda u r-riżorsi meħtieġa, jistgħu tassew jagħmlu differenza u jtejbu l-kwalità tal-ħajja tar-residenti tagħhom.

A memorable highlight from Day 2 of the ALDA Festival & General Assembly 2026 was the official launch of the Centre of Expertise on Participative Local Democracy at the Mediterranean Conference Centre in Valletta.

This important initiative marks a new chapter in strengthening democratic innovation, citizen participation, and collaboration between local authorities, civil society, and communities across Europe and beyond. The Centre of Expertise will serve as a platform for knowledge-sharing, capacity-building, and the promotion of participatory governance, reinforcing the belief that local democracy must deliver tangible results for citizens.

Following the launch, participants, partners, and distinguished guests came together for an evening of networking and celebration, fostering new connections and strengthening existing partnerships in a truly inspiring atmosphere.

Thank you to all those who contributed to making this milestone event a success.

On Sette Giugno, we commemorate a defining moment in Malta's history, honouring those who stood up for justice, dignity and national rights.

This day reminds us of the sacrifices made in the pursuit of social progress and democratic values that continue to shape our nation and communities today. The Local Councils' Association marks this important anniversary in remembrance and reflection.

🇲🇹🤝🇺🇦 Strengthening Local Democracy Through International Cooperation

The Local Councils' Association is honoured to have received this letter of appreciation from the Kosmach Community in Ukraine following their recent study visit to Malta under the TIPS4UA project.

We are deeply encouraged by their positive feedback and by the recognition of the efforts made to showcase Malta's local governance system, community development initiatives, and the important role played by Local and Regional Councils in improving residents' quality of life.

The exchange of knowledge, experiences, and best practices between local authorities is essential in building stronger, more resilient communities. We are particularly proud that the visit provided valuable insights that can contribute to people-centred governance, partnership development, and international cooperation within Ukrainian communities.

🌍 Local government has the power to bring people together, foster innovation, and create meaningful change. We firmly believe that collaboration between municipalities across borders strengthens local democracy and promotes mutual understanding.

🙏 We thank Ms Hanna Vartsabiuk, First Deputy Head of the Kosmach Community, for her kind words and for the spirit of friendship and cooperation demonstrated throughout this exchange.

We look forward to continuing this dialogue, strengthening our partnership, and exploring future opportunities for collaboration between our communities.

Together, we can build stronger local governments and better communities for all

🌍🇪🇺 A Proud Milestone for the Local Councils' Association!

🎉 We are delighted to share that, on our very first attempt, we have been selected to participate in the European Week of Regions and Cities 2026 in Brussels.

📊 Out of 424 valid applications submitted from across Europe, only 115 partner applications were selected. We are honoured that our proposal was among them.

🏝️ Under the title "Island Communities in Action: Showcasing Local Innovation and Building European Partnerships", we will have the opportunity to showcase the important work being carried out by the Local Councils' Association Malta, Malta's Local and Regional Councils, highlighting innovative projects, best practices, and the unique realities and opportunities of island territories.

🤝 This achievement reflects the dedication of our councils, councillors, employees, and partners who work tirelessly to improve the quality of life of our residents and strengthen local democracy.

🇪🇺 Brussels will provide an excellent platform to demonstrate how local government in Malta and Gozo is delivering results, fostering innovation, and building meaningful European partnerships.

🙏 A sincere thank you to our LCA team involved in preparing this successful application. We now look forward to representing our communities on the European stage and demonstrating that, although we are islands, our ambitions and contributions reach far beyond our shores.

🚀 See you in Brussels!
