Mellieħa Scout Group

Mellieħa Scout Group The Mellieha Scout Group was officially re-opened on the 22nd December 1991, thanks to the former Group Scout Leader Capt.

We are very proud to introduce our Scout Group and give general information about its re-establishment after more than fifty years from it's first founded in 1938, which was suspended during the Second World War. Norman D'Amato; the former parish priest Fr. Alfred Camilleri; the current Group Scout Leader Johann Aquilina and many other laymen who gave a helping hand to establish this noble philant

hropic group in our picturesque village of Mellieha. Later on the 28th December 1991, the government of Malta, through the Lands Department, allowed us to use and restore the British Fort of Mellieha that, during the Second World War, had an essential role and was used as an observation post (O.P.). Today we are proud to say that we have the biggest headquarters on the island. During the year we welcome several local and foreign Scout groups which spend a week or more camping as part of their scouting activities. The premises are well equipped with kitchen/sanitary facilities, dormitories and campsite. There are also some interesting underground shelters and among all, the lovely views of Mellieha Bay and its surroundings. The fort is located on the highest point of Mellieha and recently, it is being surrounded by new residential buildings, where most of our members live.

Last month, the Scout Association of Malta organised a symposium for all leaders across the Association. During this event, we also witnessed the transition of our Chief Commissioner and were presented with the Executive Team's strategic vision and objectives for the next five years.

The symposium provided an excellent opportunity for leaders to come together, reflect on the Association's achievements, and gain insight into the future direction of Scouting in Malta. The presentation of the new strategy highlighted key priorities and initiatives aimed at strengthening the movement and ensuring its continued growth and relevance for young people over the coming years.
