Malta SME Week The Programme Implementation Directorate within the Ministry for the Economy, Enterprise and Strategic Projects.

The below are some of the initiatives that the directorate is responsible for:

Entrepreneurship in Action
Entrepreneurship in Action is a training programme to equip students and educators with entrepreneurial skills and instil an entrepreneurial mindset. The programme would be of benefit to Malta’s growing economy through the development of an entrepreneurial culture and entrepreneurial skills a

mong students and educators. Entrepreneurship is a major driver of innovation, competitiveness and growth. The promotion of entrepreneurial attitudes and skills in our society through education at all levels has been on the political agenda and has recently been recognized as one of the new basic skills that should be provided through lifelong learning. The European Commission also encourages Member States to organise activities that focus on Entrepreneurship and at the same time generate public awareness, especially amongst those people who wish to start a business or are already in business and wish to grow and expand their business activities. The Malta SME week is the Maltese contribution towards the European SME week organised by the European Commission. During the European SME week insight is offered into what the EU and national institutions do to support micro, small and medium-sized businesses. The Malta SME Week is held on a yearly basis and amongst other things aims to:
· provide information on what the EU and national, regional and local authorities are offering to support micro, small and medium-sized businesses;

· promote entrepreneurship so that more people, and in particular younger people, seriously consider becoming an entrepreneur as a career option;

· give recognition to entrepreneurs for their contribution to Europe's welfare, jobs, innovation and competitiveness

🏆 ANNOUNCING THE WINNER – Youth4Entrepreneurship Gozo 2025! 🌟

We are pleased to announce that the winner of this year’s Youth4Entrepreneurship Gozo is Gabriel Hili with his idea GħaQLI: l-Għawdxi Qabel l-Ingliż! 🎉

The evaluators highlighted the proposal’s innovative and future-oriented approach, its relevance to AI development, and its potential to support long-term linguistic preservation. They also noted his confident pitch, clear market understanding, and well-defined problem statement.

At the same time, we want to extend a heartfelt well done to Josie Aldam and Fulvio Valenti, who both delivered strong, creative, and impactful pitches. Their ideas - each unique and rooted in Gozo’s needs and opportunities - reflect exactly what Youth4Entrepreneurship Gozo is all about: encouraging young people to explore ideas, take initiative, and develop solutions for our island’s future.

👉 This initiative is not about competition. It is about inspiring, supporting, and empowering all young people who take the courage to step forward, share a vision, and start shaping Gozo’s tomorrow.

A warm congratulations to Gabriel, Josie, and Fulvio — three young changemakers who have made us proud. 🌟

📣 Youth 4 Entrepreneurship Gozo Featured in Yesterday’s Times of Malta! 🚀

We are pleased to share that yesterday’s edition of the Times of Malta featured an article highlighting the upcoming 7th edition of the Youth 4 Entrepreneurship Gozo, which will be held this Friday, 21 November, at the Kempinski Hotel San Lawrenz.

This year’s theme - “Digital Solutions for a Smarter Island” - encourages young people to propose innovative and practical ideas that address Gozo’s unique challenges through digital innovation. 💡🌐

The initiative continues to serve as an important platform for youth aged 16–35 to showcase creative solutions that can contribute to Gozo’s sustainability, resilience, and long-term development.

We look forward to welcoming all participants for an inspiring evening celebrating youth creativity and entrepreneurship. 🙌✨

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Anglu Farrugia, argued that Malta’s path forward should be one that balances competitiveness with consciousness. ESG, he noted, is about creating value through the way decisions are made and how organisations build trust. He argued that social excellence, in this context, means ensuring fairness, safety, and dignity in the workplace, where every person, Maltese and foreign, feels valued and protected.
