After months of demanding training, discipline, perseverance, and personal sacrifice, the recruits of Intake 261 are preparing for a significant milestone in their military journey.

Yesterday, the Armed Forces of Malta Band delivered a ceremonial display and proudly performed the Maltese National Anthem at the National Pool Complex, Tal-Qroqq, during a special event marking the Water polo Champions League Final 4. ๐Ÿคฝโ€โ™‚๏ธ

A delegation from the Operation Sea Guardian (OSG) Naval Task Group held a courtesy call with the Commander of the Armed Forces of Malta.

The OSG delegation included Captain Antonio S. Dโ€™Amico, Commander of the OSG Task Group and Commanding Officer of ITS Duilio, together with the Commanding Officers of the Albanian Navy ALS LISSUS and the Croatian Navy Ship HRVS VUKOVAR. ๐Ÿค

The OSG Task Group is currently conducting a port visit in Malta. During their stay in port, a number of capacity-building activities were held between the crews of the ships and members of the Armed Forces of Malta Maritime Squadron. ๐ŸŒŠโš“

Also present for this special gathering was Captain Dylan Caruana, who is currently undergoing rehabilitation. The Armed Forces of Malta extends its continued support and best wishes for his recovery. ๐Ÿค

This morning, the Rescue Coordination Centre received a request for a medical evacuation from a fishing vessel at sea whose crew member required immediate medical attention due to a grievous hand injury.

An Armed Forces of Malta AW 139 helicopter was dispatched and successfully conducted the medical evacuation.

Upon landing, the crew member was handed over to the medical staff of Mater Dei Hospital for further medical care.

The Armed Forces of Malta ๐Ÿ‡ฒ๐Ÿ‡น have just participated in the 66th Edition of the annual International Military Pilgrimage held in Lourdes, France.

From Thursday 22nd to Sunday 24th May 2026, our contingent of pilgrim-soldiers joined with over 17,000 others from 40 different countries in this truly meaningful event. ๐Ÿ™

This pilgrimage is a unique opportunity for military personnel from around the world to walk together, listen and meditate on the message of fraternity, unity and peace. ๐Ÿค

Yesterday evening, the Malta Vessel Traffic Services received a notification from a fishing vessel regarding a boat carrying irregular migrants in distress, located approximately 50 nautical miles east of Malta, outside territorial waters.

Information received indicated that several individuals had fallen overboard while attempting to reach the assisting fishing vessel.

The Rescue Coordination Centre immediately instructed the fishing vessel, along with other vessels in the vicinity, to render assistance.

Concurrently, Armed Forces of Malta (AFM) assets were deployed to support the ongoing rescue operation. The Italian Coast Guard also provided assistance as part of the coordinated effort.

A total of 53 irregular migrants have been rescued, while 11 bodies have been recovered.

All recovered persons were provided with immediate medical attention. One person required urgent medical care, and a medevac was carried out by an AFM air asset.

Following the operation, all rescued persons and recovered bodies were transferred to the relevant authorities upon arrival ashore for further assistance and necessary procedures.
