When people browse job adverts, they're usually thinking about one thing: "Could this be my next opportunity?"

At last week's Cedefop and Eurostat conference in Thessaloniki, the conversation looked at those same adverts from a different perspective. Representing the National Skills Council, Kenneth Mallia and Viktoriia Pastorova joined experts from across Europe to explore how online job vacancy data can reveal emerging labour market trends and future skills needs.

Taken individually, a vacancy tells us what one employer is looking for. Taken together, they paint a much bigger picture: the skills that are becoming more valuable, the roles that are emerging, and the opportunities that may shape future careers.

They can also support better education and training planning, career guidance, and policymaking. It's a reminder that every job advert is more than a vacancy to fill. It is also a signal of where the labour market is heading and the skills people may need to get there.

In today’s fast-paced world, making career choices can feel overwhelming at times, but no one should navigate them alone.

In this interview, Angela Jones from the Directorate for Lifelong Learning & Employability explains how free career guidance services are available locally to support you, whether you are:
- a student throughout your learning years
- an adult worker during your employment journey
- a professional in the guidance or education sectors

Through the National Career Guidance Network, we continue to highlight the value of guidance services that support people in their short and long-term career path goals, whether during their studies, or at an advanced stage in life.

Do you agree there needs to be more guidance in today’s evolving labour market?
