Thinking about enrolling in a course? Don’t just read the headline, read the fine print.
Before you commit your time and money, take a moment to check the facts:

• Is the provider licensed?
• Is the specific programme accredited?
• What qualification will you receive?
• What MQF/EQF level does it carry?
• How many ECTS credits does it have, where applicable?

Remember: a licensed education provider doesn’t automatically mean that every programme they offer is accredited.

Being informed means asking the right questions, checking reliable sources and making decisions with confidence.

Check the provider. Check the programme. Check the information.
Because sometimes, being literate means knowing how to read the fine print.

📢 New Policy Recommendations on Staff Development in Higher Education.

The European University Association has just released the Final Policy Recommendations from the EU co-funded "Staff Development in Learning and Teaching at European Universities" (STAFF-DEV) project.

Over the past two years, STAFF-DEV has built a solid knowledge base – through studies, peer-learning opportunities and capacity-building initiatives, all centred on one goal: enhancing learning and teaching across European universities. Crucially, the work also strengthens the case for better recognising and rewarding teaching within academic careers.

These recommendations are aimed squarely at university leadership and higher education policymakers, offering practical guidance on how to lead meaningful change. They build directly on Annex III of the Rome Communiqué (2020), reinforcing staff development as a key pillar of the Bologna Process and its drive to raise the overall quality of education.

📣 HAVE YOUR SAY

YOUR FEEDBACK MATTERS

Are you a licensed Higher Education provider with the MFHEA?

We want to hear from you.

The Higher Education Unit within the MFHEA is inviting licensed Higher Education providers to provide feedback on the draft Framework for the Quality Assurance and Authorisation of Foreign-Awarded Programmes in Higher Education through this Policy-re-Foreign-Awarded-Programmes-.pdf and Quality Assurance of Foreign Awarded Programmes.

The proposed Framework aims to establish a clear, transparent and robust approach to the quality assurance and authorisation of Higher Education programmes delivered by Maltese licensed providers that lead to qualifications conferred by foreign awarding bodies.

Your feedback will contribute to the further refinement of the Framework and support the continued strengthening of Malta’s Higher Education quality assurance system, in alignment with the Standards and Guidelines for Quality Assurance in the European Higher Education Area (ESG).

📝 Complete the questionnaire and have your say.
📅 Deadline: 30 September 2026

Your experience. Your feedback. A stronger quality assurance framework.

At the MFHEA, we recognise the importance of accessible, inclusive and quality education in supporting individuals throughout their learning journey.

On International Literacy Day, we reaffirm the value of education in creating opportunities for learning, growth and participation for all.

Before you enrol, read the fine print.
In today’s digital world, literacy means more than simply being able to read and write. It also means knowing how to navigate information, ask the right questions and check what you’re being told.

When choosing an education programme, don’t rely only on the advertisement. Take a moment to check:

• Is the provider licensed?
• Is the specific programme accredited?
• What qualification will you receive?
• What MQF and EQF level does it carry?
• How many ECTS credits does it have, where applicable?

As UNESCO marks the 60th anniversary of International Literacy Day in 2026 with the theme “Literacy for people, the planet and prosperity,” we look at what literacy means in everyday life, including making informed decisions about education.

For learners and parents, a few simple checks can make a big difference.
Check the provider. Check the programme. Check the information.

Because sometimes, being literate means knowing how to read the fine print.
