🚶‍♀️ Pedestrian Summer Road Safety
With more people enjoying Malta during this summer season it’s important to stay alert whenever you’re near traffic.

Wear secure and comfortable footwear – Loose sandals or flip-flops can increase the risk of tripping or slipping on hot roads.

Stay hydrated and protect yourself from the sun – Heat and dehydration can cause dizziness and reduced concentration.

Use designated pedestrian crossings – Cross at zebra crossings especially in busy traffic areas.

Look both ways before crossing – Always stop, look, and listen before stepping onto the road.

Wear reflective clothing when walking after dark – Summer days are longer, but visibility still drops in the evening and at night. Light-coloured or reflective clothing helps drivers see you more easily.

Avoid distractions such as mobile phones and earphones – Looking at your phone or listening to loud music can reduce your awareness of vehicles, cyclists, e-scooters, and other hazards.

Road safety is a shared responsibility. Whether you’re walking, cycling, or driving, staying aware can make all the difference.

Stay alert. Stay visible. Stay safe.

𝐆𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐄𝐥𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔 𝐑𝐞𝐜𝐚𝐩
LESA played a vital role in supporting civil authorities throughout the 2026 General Election, helping ensure the smooth, safe, and orderly conduct of activities before, during, and after polling day.

With more than 80 officers deployed throughout the whole month and operation, LESA provided extensive traffic management and enforcement support across the Maltese Islands.

Officers supervised traffic flow and assisted residents living in the vicinity of the Naxxar Counting Hall. Ensuring accessibility while maintaining the necessary security and operational measures around the area.

LESA also coordinated road closures and traffic diversions during political mass meetings and rallies, facilitating the safe movement of participants and minimising disruption to surrounding communities. Additional support included escorting election-related billboards and official guests attending major electoral events.

On voting day, LESA maintained a state of readiness through a dedicated Quick Reaction Motorcycle Team, while officers participated in a Joint Control Room operation during the evening to enhance coordination and provide a rapid response capability where required.

LESA extends its sincere appreciation to all officers involved for their dedication, professionalism, and unwavering commitment throughout the election period, whose efforts were instrumental in ensuring the smooth and safe conduct of the 2026 General Election.

🚗 Summer Driving Road Safety

Higher temperatures, busier roads, and increased pedestrian activity mean drivers need to be extra vigilant during the summer months.

Stay hydrated and drive sober – Dehydration can lead to reduced concentration, while alcohol impairs judgment and driving ability.

Beware of sun glare – Bright sunlight can temporarily reduce visibility, particularly during early mornings and late afternoons.

Watch for pedestrians crossing –tourists means increased foot traffic during the summer period.

Avoid driving in flip-flops – Loose footwear can slip off, become trapped beneath pedals, or reduce your control of the vehicle.

Never use your mobile phone while driving – Distracted driving can have serious consequences for you and other road users.

Always wear your seatbelt – A seatbelt remains one of the most effective ways to reduce serious injuries in the event of a collision.

A few simple precautions can help keep everyone safe on Malta's roads this summer.

Drive responsibly. Arrive safely.
