The Northern Marianas Housing Corporation (NMHC); NMHC Director Zenie Mafnas, and NMHC Planner; Tricia Tenorio are currently in coordination with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) team: HUD Office of Planning & Development Assistant Secretary; Ronald Kurtz, HUD Office of Community Planning & Development Deputy Assistant Secretary; Brian Horn, HUD Office of Community Planning and Development Regional Community Planning and Development Regional Director; and HUD Honolulu Field Office Senior CPD Rep; Rebecca Borja, regarding the provision of Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Interim Assistance to the Mayors of Saipan, Tinian, and Rota. This assistance includes an allocation of $250,000 for each municipality to support critical debris removal efforts.

This initiative is intended to address the impacts of Super Typhoon Sinlaku and to enhance preparedness for future storm events. The acquisition of such equipment will significantly improve the efficiency and effectiveness of debris removal operations, helping to ensure safer and faster recovery for affected communities.

We express our sincere appreciation to NMHC for their proactive initiative to help the municipalities, these equipment will help advance our efforts that directly support local recovery and resilience.
