What happens when 10-year-olds walk into Parliament?
Many questions and many ideas.

On Democracy Day, students watched “How Shari Became an MP”, an animated story showing how a community can turn a problem into action by speaking up, working together and getting involved.

Swiss Ambassador Christoph Sommer reminded them: democracy starts long before you are old enough to vote. It starts when you realise that your voice matters.

The students then met Members of Parliament, asked questions and explored the Parliament.

🇨🇭🤝🇲🇰Swiss Ambassador Christoph Sommer, together with the new Swiss Regional Advisor for Water and Environment, Ms Jacqueline Schmid, met with Mr Muamet Hoxha, Minister of Environment and Physical Planning, to discuss joint activities and interventions in the field of the environment.

For over 30 years, Switzerland has been a key development partner, supporting reforms in water and waste management, nature protection, biodiversity, and climate resilience. In light of the new parameters of Switzerland’s international cooperation, they discussed the ongoing collaboration on solid waste management, groundwater use and protection, biodiversity and ecosystem conservation, strengthening the resilience and efficiency of public utilities, as well as packaging waste recycling.

Switzerland remains committed to supporting North Macedonia's European integration and reform processes for sustainable development and better lives for citizens.

Swiss National Day Celebration in Skopje! 🇨🇭🤝🇲🇰

With our partners here, we had the opportunity to get together and reflect on what is important for both our countries - to be innovative and persistent in finding solutions to the challenges that arise.

Strong institutions ensure quality services for citizens!

Ambassador Sommer met with Minister of Justice Mr Jeton Shasivari to exchange on North Macedonia's legislative agenda and reform process in elections and justice. Ambassador Sommer emphasised Switzerland's partnership with North Macedonia in the European integration and reform agenda.

The call for applications for the Swiss Government Excellence Scholarships for the academic year 2027-2028 is online!

Each year the Swiss Confederation awards Government Excellence Scholarships for talented early career researchers from abroad who have already completed their Master's degree.

Candidates from North Macedonia may apply for research and PhD studies at Swiss cantonal universities, federal institutes of technology, universities of applied sciences and the four research institutes. Detailed information is available on this link:

Each year the Swiss Confederation awards Government Excellence Scholarships to encourage international exchange and research cooperation between Switzerland and over 180 other countries.
