WELCOME

This is the page of the Publications Office of the European Union (Publications Office) — an interinstitutional office with the task of publishing publications of the institutions of the European Union (see Decision No 2009/496/EC, Euratom). The Publications Office publishes daily the Official Journal of the European Union in 23 languages (24 when Irish is required) and produces (or co-produces) publicity for EU initiatives and activities. It publishes or co-publishes the publications in the context of the communication activities of the institutions. Moreover, the Publications Office offers a number of online services giving free access to information on EU law (EUR-Lex), EU publications, public procurement (TED), and EU research and development (CORDIS). On 15 September, we mark the International Day of Democracy. This day is a reminder that strong democracies depend on transparency, participation, and access to information. 🗳️

Open data plays an important role in supporting accountable governance by enabling citizens, researchers, journalists, and policymakers to better understand public decisions and engage in democratic processes.

By making public sector information freely available, governments can foster trust, encourage participation, and support evidence-based decision-making.

In this article, we explore the connection between democracy and open data, and how the European Data Portal helps make information more accessible across Europe.

Read the full article and discover how open data contributes to more transparent and inclusive institutions.

Everyone has the right to a roof above their head. 🏚️

Affordable housing is a major concern for citizens across Europe, especially in cities and popular tourist destinations.

Europe needs more homes, and, while we build for the future, we must also ensure the availability and affordability of the housing we have today.

With its Affordable Housing Act, the European Commission wants to provide national, regional and local authorities with the tools and legal certainty they need to assess housing availability and affordability where the pressure is greatest, and to determine the appropriate next steps.

Housing is a right, not a privilege. 🇪🇺

September brings many of us back to school, work or everyday life. But how much of our daily routine is shaped by the EU?

From clean drinking water to safe food or studying and working abroad, many benefits are based on EU law, as published in the Official Journal of the European Union, in all the EU’s official languages.

The Official Journal of the European Union is an essential element in the EU’s decision-making process, supporting a Union founded on democracy, equality, the rule of law and respect for human rights.

To learn more about the benefits of EU actions in your daily life, read the dedicated brochure 'Where EU actions come to life' and access the EU regulations that have established these benefits.
