It's best to be prepared! In the case of an emergency the Embassy strongly advises all Irish citizens to:
- Ensure emergency alert messages are enabled on your phone to receive alert messages from the Lithuanian Government
- Follow the instructions of Lithuanian authorities through LT72.lt (official crisis preparedness website) and through LRT.lt (local media).
- Download the LT72 app for English language updates and information on emergency preparedness

After hearing sirens and/or receiving an “Air alert” notification (“ORO PAVOJUS”), you should immediately make your way to the nearest shelter marked with a special yellow “Priedanga” sign. If this is not possible, try to access a basement or an underground car park, or an interior room without windows where you will be shielded from flying debris. Remain there until you get an update the danger has passed. To find the nearest shelter, use the map:

General Emergency: Call 112 (Police, Fire and Rescue, Ambulance).

Irish citizens travelling or living overseas are encouraged to register their contact details with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.

🇮🇪 Today we celebrate .

on 9 May celebrates the vision set out in the Schuman Declaration of 1950 and the values that underpin the 🇪🇺 European Union: 🤝cooperation, solidarity, and 🌍peace.

The date also marks a turning point in Europe’s history — the end of World War II when peace began to take root after unimaginable loss. Remembering this past reminds us that unity is not symbolic; it is a commitment to cooperation, dialogue, and the ongoing effort to protect peace where it remains at risk.

On , we underscore the essential role of free, independent media and the courage of journalists. In the latest press freedom index, Belarus ranks 166th - among the worst globally. Journalists face harassment, imprisonment, and persecution for speaking the truth. We call for a free press in Belarus and the release of all detained journalists.
