Dear Radio Wologizi FM 87.9 and others.
I write to clarify recent public comments claiming that the forced resignation of Hon. Sekou B. Korleh was only because he declined to attend the Unity Party Homecoming. This is not the only reason as being spread across by many.
The decision was not based on a single incident. Rather, it followed a sustained campaign of propaganda and political maneuvering by some citizens of Quardu Gboni who are affiliated with the Unity Party. These individuals headed by Hon. Mamassa D. Kamara appear to have viewed Hon. Korleh’s competence and strong performance at the National Port Authority as a threat to their own political ambitions.
On several occasions, they have reportedly visited the Office of the President with the clear intention of undermining Hon. Korleh. They have approached the President together with one of Lofa County’s senators and pressed for Hon. Sekou B. Korleh to be dismissed. This was done despite the fact that his position was a civil service role, not a political appointment.
It is important to note that the only issue raised against Hon. Korleh was his previous service under the CDC led government and his decision to contest the 2023 elections in District #4 on the CDC ticket. No evidence of misconduct, incompetence, or administrative failure was ever presented.
Hon. Sekou B. Korleh served the National Port Authority for more than 18 years with dedication and professionalism. His deep institutional knowledge and technical expertise are precisely why successive administrations, including those of former President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf and the CDC government, retained him regardless of political differences.
In his role as Executive Director for Governmental and International Affairs at the Liberia National Port Authority, Hon. Korleh made meaningful contributions to strengthening relationships between the Liberian government and international partners. He helped improve policy coordination, attract strategic cooperation, and protect Liberia’s port interests both nationally and internationally. These efforts enhanced the credibility and effectiveness of the NPA.
Sadly, this level of competence and principled leadership made him a target for unprofessional and self serving political actors who feel threatened by progress. Instead of competing on merit, they chose to rely on propaganda, backroom plotting, and intimidation, using his constitutional right to political participation against him.
While we recognize the authority of President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr., it is troubling that such an important decision appears to have been influenced by partisan narratives rather than an objective review of facts, performance, and long standing service to the country.
At a time when Liberia urgently needs unity, reconciliation, and inclusion, especially in Lofa County, actions like this risk widening political divisions instead of healing them. History shows that leaders are most effective when they work to bring people together after elections, not when they sideline citizens based on unverified claims.
The removal of Hon. Sekou B. Korleh under these circumstances sets a worrying precedent one where professionalism is overshadowed by politics and public servants are penalized not for failure, but for perceived political affiliations.
It is our hope that this clarification will help inform the public and encourage a more balanced and truthful discussion of the matter.
Sincerely,
Musa KM Fofana
