๐Œ๐Ž๐๐‘๐Ž๐•๐ˆ๐€, ๐‹๐ˆ๐๐„๐‘๐ˆ๐€ โ€” The Liberia Electricity Corporation (LEC) has further strengthened its technical capacity following the successful completion of an intensive SCADA/EMS training program in the People's Republic of China.

The training, conducted by NR Electric from August 17 to August 28, 2026, brought together eight LEC professionals, including seven engineers and one senior manager, for specialized training focused on modern power system control, monitoring, and management.

The program forms part of LEC's continued efforts to develop the technical expertise required to operate, manage, and maintain an increasingly modern electricity grid.

Throughout the training, participants received a combination of theoretical instruction and practical, hands-on experience in key areas of power system operations and control technology.

The training covered Control System Management; Control System Handling (SCADA); Control System Handling (EMS); Control System Hardware Maintenance; SCADA System Maintenance; Software Management; and Database Management.

SCADA โ€” Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition โ€” and EMS โ€” Energy Management System โ€” are critical technologies in modern power systems, enabling utility operators to monitor grid conditions, manage system operations, respond to faults, and make informed decisions to support the reliable delivery of electricity.

By equipping its engineers and management personnel with advanced knowledge in these areas, LEC is investing in the human capacity needed to support the Corporation's evolving grid infrastructure and improve operational efficiency.

The practical component of the training also provided participants with valuable exposure to the technologies and systems used in modern power control environments, strengthening their ability to apply the knowledge gained to LEC's operations.

At the conclusion of the program, all eight participants successfully completed the training and were awarded certificates in recognition of their achievement.

The successful completion of the program represents another important milestone in LEC's commitment to continuous professional development and technical excellence.

As Liberia's electricity network continues to expand and become more interconnected, LEC's ability to effectively monitor, control, maintain, and manage the grid will remain critical to improving reliability and service delivery to customers.

Through strategic technical training and capacity building, LEC continues to prepare its workforce to meet the demands of a modern power sector and contribute to the Corporation's vision of providing safe, reliable, and sustainable electricity service to the people of Liberia.

The future of Liberia's power sector depends not only on infrastructure, but also on the skilled professionals who operate it. LEC is investing in both.

The LEC Anti-Power Theft Taskforce is currently on the ground in Johnsonville Township conducting an enforcement operation.

Whatโ€™s happening right now:
- Team on site: LEC taskforce officers with security support
- Focus: Illegal connections, meter bypasses, and unregistered customers
- Objective: Recover revenue, protect the grid, and ensure legitimate customers get stable power

Residents are being engaged and properties with suspected power theft are being inspected. Defaulters are being asked to regularize their accounts by visiting LEC's HQ Down Waterside, West Point.

LEC management says this operation is part of the ongoing "Operation Safe Grid" to reduce losses and improve service delivery across Monrovia and surrounding communities.

PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT

MONROVIA, LIBERIA โ€” September 1, 2026: The Liberia Electricity Corporation (LEC) informs the public that a trip occurred on the CLSG transmission line, resulting in power interruptions affecting several communities.

LEC and CLSG technical teams are currently working to resolve the issue, and power restoration is ongoing. Electricity is being restored progressively, and affected communities will continue to be reconnected gradually as the technical teams stabilize the system and complete the necessary restoration work on the grid.

LEC understands the inconvenience caused by this interruption and appreciates the public's patience and understanding as our technical teams work to restore normal service.

LEC remains committed to restoring power safely and as quickly as possible.

News Brief: LEC Hosts Sierra Leoneโ€™s EDSA on Study Tour Focused on Loss Reduction and Revenue Maximization.

Monrovia, Liberia: The Liberia Electricity Corporation (LEC) is hosting a 11-member delegation from Sierra Leoneโ€™s Electricity Distribution and Supply Authority (EDSA) on a study tour focused on loss reduction, revenue maximization, revenue protection, and improved utility operations.

The EDSA delegation, including senior leadership of the Authority, arrived in Liberia on August 27, 2026, as part of a regional knowledge-sharing engagement to learn from LECโ€™s experiences, strategies, and ongoing initiatives aimed at reducing commercial and technical losses while strengthening revenue performance.

During the visit, relevant LEC department heads and technical teams will make presentations and hold sessions with the delegation on several key areas, including:

- Loss Reduction and Revenue Protection: LECโ€™s strategies for addressing commercial and technical losses, electricity theft, meter-related challenges, and strengthening revenue protection.

- Governance and Institutional Initiatives: Measures being implemented to improve accountability, operational controls, institutional coordination, and performance across the Corporation.

- Revenue Maximization: Approaches being adopted by LEC to improve billing, collections, customer compliance, and overall revenue performance.

- Government Ministries and Agencies: LECโ€™s methods for strengthening electricity revenue collection from government ministries, agencies, and other public institutions.

- Grid Stability and System Operations: Technical approaches and operational measures being implemented to strengthen grid stability, reliability, and electricity distribution.

- Technology and Metering: The use of improved metering and other technology-driven solutions to enhance customer management, revenue assurance, and loss reduction.

As part of the study tour, the EDSA delegation will also visit some of Liberiaโ€™s major electricity generation and operational facilities. These include LECโ€™s thermal generation facility, the 20MW solar farm, and the Mount Coffee Hydropower Plant in Harrisburg.

The facility tours will provide the delegation with an opportunity to observe LECโ€™s generation infrastructure and gain practical insight into how the Corporation is integrating different energy sources and operational systems to support Liberiaโ€™s electricity supply.

The engagement also provides an important platform for regional cooperation and knowledge exchange between the two neighboring West African utilities, allowing both institutions to share experiences and identify practical approaches to common challenges confronting electricity distribution companies in the region.

The EDSA delegation is expected to conclude its study tour and depart Liberia for Sierra Leone on August 30, 2026.
