Improving Rural Women Participation in Transboundary Watershed Management:

Through the "Shared Waters, Shared Power" project, funded by the IUCN, The Nature Compact worked alongside three communities - , -juah, and in Grand Cape Mount County along the .

Over several months, we has been actively engaged with the communities to achieve the following:
- Conducted a comprehensive gender assessment and capacity building plan,
- Developed a 28-module training curriculum, and,
- Trained 83 stakeholders (78 women and 5 men), including traditional chiefs, a District Development Superintendent, and a District Commissioner.

We are proud the Seventy-five women who have benefited from the initiatives to build their leadership, negotiation, and advocacy skills in water governance.

With support from our staff, these women went on to lead community awareness sessions that reached far beyond the training room.

Peer-learning and mentorship networks now link women across all three communities - a foundation for gender-responsive water governance that outlasts the life of the project.

There is still work ahead, including persistent barriers like unsafe transportation and limited representation in decision-making.

However, the momentum is real, and the women of the Mano River Basin are leading it.

Special thanks to the local government representatives, the men, Forestry Development Authority-FDA and Environmental Protection Agency - EPA of Liberia for the continued support and partnership.

Today, under the funded PROBIO project, The Nature Compact and ADARA Research and Management Consultancy -ARMC and partners ( ) made advances towards the development of a National Curriculum for Environmental-Conservation Education in Liberia.

Our team met with and Senior Management Team of the Ministry of Education - Liberia and presented the framework for the National Curriculum for Environmental-Conservation Education in Liberia.

We are excited about the integrated nature of this initiative and will keep pursuing new opportunities for collaboration with all partners.

Today May 22, we celebrate “The International Day for Biological Diversity”.

It is a reminder to the world that we cannot survive without biodiversity. This year's theme, 'Acting locally for global impact', aims to connect local initiatives with the 23 targets of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework.

In Liberia, The Nature Compact joins partners and stakeholders to commentate this day with a range of activities- from raising awareness to implementing practical actions - including the creation of Protected Areas and community forest and OECMs.

But what are activities that affect biodiversity?

The most impact on biodiversity is caused by Human pressure. They can broadly be classified in five main types
- Land-use change,
- Resource exploitation,
- Pollution,
- Climate Change
- Introducing invasive species
- Weak laws and inadequate enforcement
- Limited knowledge on the benefits of biodiversity

These actions can enhance or reduce species diversity locally.

In Liberia, through partnership and optimism, we will continue to work to protect and manage our rich heritage.

Tarkpoima, Gbarpolu County:

The Nature Compact organized and coordinated a high profile delegation from the , UNDP Liberia, Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), and Forestry Development Authority-FDA to visit the field, specifically the Tarkpoima project landscape.

The visit was to formally engage and with the Project beneficiaries, and assess the impact of the project and develop future plans to strengthen livelihoods, improve biodiversity conservation outcomes, and consolidate the gains in forest governance within the landscape.

Gbarpolu County Mafala Community Forest:

Forestry Development Authority-FDA, UNDP Liberia and Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) engages with communities on The Nature Compact (TNC’s) project:

The meeting was attended by citizens from the twelve beneficiary communities under the CBFM project in Mafala Community.

The engagement assessed the impact of the CBFM project on the communities so far with primary focus on Community Forest Governance through the competition of the FDA’s approved 9-steps for attaining Authorized Forest Community (AFC) status and livelihoods through the VSLA program.

Receiving strong positive reviews, the citizens expressed thanks to with support from the for the level of progress and transformational changes they have experienced in Forest governance and biodiversity conservation.

The assured the communities that they will sign their Management Agreement for the in the near future. The citizens expressed satisfaction to assurances of getting their Authorized Forest status soon .

The praised the communities for their acceptance, participation and ownership of the CBFM project and looked towards a future of more partnership.
