A Call for Hope, Dignity, and Opportunity: An Open Letter to President Joseph N. Boakai, Sr. on the Reopening of the Beaches and Waterways Project
His Excellency Joseph N. Boakai, Sr.
President of the Republic of Liberia
Subject: A Respectful Appeal for the Reopening of the Beaches and Waterways Project.
Your Excellency President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr., Warm greetings and sincere compliments.
I write with profound respect and appreciation to acknowledge your government's continued commitment to empowering the young people of Liberia through the various employment and skills development initiatives being implemented by the Ministry of Youth and Sports. These programs have positively impacted many young Liberians by providing employment, practical experience, and renewed hope for a better future. We sincerely commend your administration for these efforts and encourage their continued expansion.
Your Excellency, I respectfully appeal for the reopening of the Beaches and Waterways Project, an initiative that was introduced during your previous administration in 2011. This project became a lifeline for thousands of young people, particularly those from underserved communities such as West Point, New Kru Town, PHP Community, Clara Town, Slipway, and many other vulnerable communities across Liberia.
The Beaches and Waterways Project created meaningful employment opportunities for many young men and women who did not possess the educational qualifications required for formal employment. It enabled them to earn an honest living, support their families, remain productively engaged, and contribute significantly to maintaining cleaner beaches and waterways throughout the country.
During the 2023 presidential campaign, Your Excellency reaffirmed your commitment to creating more opportunities for young people and spoke about reopening programs that would directly benefit ordinary Liberians. Many young people continue to hold on to that promise with hope and confidence, believing that your leadership will continue to prioritize their welfare and aspirations.
The reopening of the Beaches and Waterways Project would complement the ongoing youth empowerment initiatives currently being implemented through the Ministry of Youth and Sports. Together, these programs would expand employment opportunities, reduce youth unemployment, promote environmental sanitation, protect our beaches and waterways, and provide hope to thousands of young people who are willing and eager to contribute meaningfully to national development.
As your government advances the ARREST Agenda for Inclusive Development, reviving this project would further demonstrate your administration's unwavering commitment to inclusive growth by ensuring that young people without formal educational qualifications are not left behind. It would provide a pathway for many vulnerable citizens to become economically productive while simultaneously contributing to cleaner and healthier communities.
Your Excellency, we respectfully appeal for your favorable consideration in restoring this impactful initiative. Its revival would once again provide employment, restore dignity to vulnerable citizens, strengthen community sanitation efforts, improve environmental sustainability, and enhance the livelihoods of thousands of Liberian families.
We once again express our sincere appreciation for your steadfast leadership and for the many opportunities your administration continues to provide for the youth of Liberia. We remain optimistic that the Beaches and Waterways Project will once again become a source of employment, empowerment, and hope for thousands of deserving young Liberians.
May Almighty God continue to bless you with wisdom, good health, strength, and divine guidance as you lead the Republic of Liberia toward greater peace, unity, and prosperity.
Respectfully,
Tamba Bundor
