EMPLOYEE SPOTLIGHT – 11TH EDITION
At the Internal Audit Agency (IAA), progress is not driven merely by policies and procedures, but by committed employees whose daily contributions keep the institution moving forward. This 11th Edition of our Employee Spotlight features Mr. Aaron A. Leo, Jr., Attendance Officer in the Human Resource Section.

Mr. Leo joined the IAA on July 1, 2022, initially as a member of the Security staff, but without serving any guard-post, he got immediately reassigned to HR based on his demonstrated capacity and the need for additional support within the Human Resource Section, where he continues to make meaningful contributions by monitoring, recording, and reporting the daily attendance of all IAA employees in line with the Civil Service Agency’s regulations. Though often behind the scenes, this assignment is essential to maintaining workplace discipline, strengthening productivity, and ensuring that employees meet their responsibilities to the institution and the public it serves.

In addition to his undergraduate Degree in Management, he possesses technical knowledge in biometric attendance systems, record keeping, documentation, filing, and report writing. His ability to identify patterns in absenteeism and recommend solutions further supports efforts of the HR Section to improve attendance management and workplace efficiency.

Meanwhile, his commitment has not gone unnoticed. Barely a year into his service at the IAA, Mr. Leo was recognized on 25th April 2023, as the Agency’s Most Committed Support Staff, a well-deserved honor that reflected his dedication, reliability, and willingness to contribute beyond expectations.

Mr. Leo’s journey is a reminder that every role matters. From the front gate to the executive office, each employee plays an important part in advancing the IAA’s mission. Through his steady commitment, he continues to demonstrate that excellence is not defined by title alone, but by the impact one makes every day.

Today, we proudly spotlight a disciplined, dedicated, and hardworking staff of the IAA, Mrs. Wanchan Jerue-Sanyon, Receptionist, whose remarkable journey exemplifies the value of commitment, perseverance, and the willingness to learn.

Mrs. Jerue-Sanyon joined the IAA on November 23, 2018, as a Cleaning Attendant. Through dedication to duty, determination to deliver on every assignment, and the willingness to continuously improve herself, she gradually advanced to the position of Receptionist. Her career progression is a testament that at IAA, hard work, good character, and commitment to excellence can open doors for professional growth.

Known for her discipline, humility, respect for others, and strong work ethic, Mrs. Jerue-Sanyon approaches every responsibility with seriousness and enthusiasm. Whether performing routine duties or taking on new responsibilities, she consistently demonstrates reliability in getting the job done. Her openness to learning has also contributed significantly to her personal and professional development.

Her outstanding performance and excellent service to the Agency were formally recognized in 2022, when she was honored as Employee of the Year, an achievement that reflects the high regard in which her colleagues and management hold her.

Beyond her professional responsibilities, Mrs. Jerue-Sanyon is a devoted wife and mother who successfully balances the demands of work and family. Her ability to juggle both responsibilities with dedication further demonstrates her strength of character and remarkable sense of responsibility. Nat’l Integrity Index Technical Team Holds Data Collection Working Session with IAA

Monrovia, Liberia — The National Integrity Index (NII) Technical Team, comprising the Governance Commission (GC) and the Liberia Anti‑Corruption Commission (LACC), today conducted a data‑collection technical working session with the Internal Audit Agency (IAA) of Liberia to evaluate the Agency’s compliance with core governance standards.

The exercise marks the pilot phase of the NII’s institutional assessment and concentrates on five key governance indicators, to include: Transparency, Accountability, Ethical Compliance, Citizen Engagement, and Institutional Capacity. The session brought the NII’s Technical Tean and the IAA’s Focal Team to review assessment rubrics, exchange questionnaires, and identify the evidence required to substantiate responses.

In his opening remarks, Mr. Netugba Wesseh, Program Manager at the Governance Commission, emphasized that the NII employs an evidence‑based methodology, and that institutions are scored not on verbal assurances alone but on the presence of verifiable supporting documents and records. Mr. Wesseh further explained that the NII assessment aligns with the Government of Liberia’s ARREST Agenda for Inclusive Development (AAID), particularly Pillar IV, which advances Governance and Anti‑Corruption objectives.

During the session, the Technical Team presented the indicator‑specific questionnaires and discussed the types of evidence necessary to demonstrate compliance. The IAA Focal Team was requested to provide timely, verifiable documentation to support its responses so that the assessment can proceed on a transparent footing.

Hon. Mohammed B. Korleh, Deputy Director General for Administration at the IAA, welcomed the NII’s participatory approach. He commended the practice of jointly reviewing evidence with entities being assessed rather than relying solely on submitted answers. Hon. Korleh described this methodology as the most effective means of gauging institutional adherence to transparency, accountability, ethical standards, and stakeholder engagement. He expressed confidence in the IAA’s governance framework and optimism that the Agency will achieve an excellent score, citing the IAA’s third‑place performance in the 2025 PMCS evaluation as an encouraging precedent.

The NII Technical Team included Messrs. Natural Wesseh and Gilbert Craigwell of the Governance Commission and Marcus Grahan of the Liberia Anti‑Corruption Commission, while the IAA’s Focal Team comprises Yahie B. Conniff, Senior Accountant, Adolphus Kawah, Director of Communications, Margaret S. Kollie, Director for Human Resources, Ballah Davis, Chief of Staff to the DG, and Sekou Konneh, Special Assistant to the DDGA.

IAA Honorably Retires a Consummate Professional

CONGO TOWN, PAYNESVILLE - The headquarters of the Internal Audit Agency (IAA) of Liberia became a vibrant arena of celebration yesterday, as the management, staff, and well-wishers gathered for a colorful retirement ceremony honoring one of its illustrious and dedicated employees, Mr. Darlington S. Shiakeh, Audit Supervisor in the Audit Services Department.

The retirement ceremony was defined by an overwhelming aura of praise, as management and colleagues alike lauded Mr. Shiakeh’s decades of professional service.

The Director General of the IAA, Hon. David A. Kemah, performed the gowning and presentation of certificate to Mr. Shiakeh, describing him as a paragon of humility; while the Deputy Director General for Audit Services, Hon. James Kerkulah, presented an elegant plaque of honor reflecting the honoree’s stellar contributions to the agency.

According to the Director General, Mr. Shiakeh leaves behind more than just a vacancy; he leaves a legacy of a clean personnel file, which is rare in public service, and speaks volume of his dedication. He urged current staff members to emulate the honoree’s standard of service, noting that professional growth is sustained by the character one demonstrates when no one is watching.

In addition to his statutory retirement benefits, the Deputy Director General for Administration, Hon. Mohammed B. Korleh, presented Mr. Shiakeh a cheque of US$1,000 as a token of appreciation from management, ensuring his transition into retirement is as dignified as his service was distinguished.

The highlight of the event was Mr. Shiakeh’s own reflection on a remarkable journey that began as a gardener and culminated in a high-ranking supervisory role. In an emotional address, he reminded the audience that his climb up the professional ladder was not fueled by academic accolades alone, but by a relentless commitment to honesty and integrity.

According to him, he did not realize at the time that the humility and integrity he practiced would become the bedrock of his career.

He used to occasion to encouraged his colleagues still in active service to treat their duties with utmost dedication, emphasizing that there is always a reward for doing the right thing.
