Dengue Surveillance program at Robert Gunawardana Mawatha and
Denzil Kibbekaduwa Mawatha
The Environmental Promotion Unit of the Environmental Education and Awareness Division of the CEA conducts monthly field surveillance program at Denzil Kobbekaduwa Mawatha and Robert Gunawardana Mawatha, in search of breeding habitats of mosquito vectors. This program is conducted to prevent the spreading of dengue disease and it is successfully implemented with the coordination and cooperation of the adjacent state organizations and private institutions and the activities are being implemented under the guidance of CEA and Public Health Inspector of the area.
Dengue Prevention Program proposed for the month of December was successfully conducted in 13th, December, 2019. This program was implemented under the patronage of the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment, Battaramulla with the participation of 93 officers belonging to stakeholder organizations.

Workshop on EPL procedure for the Local Authorities – Jaffna District
The Jaffna District office of the Central Environmental Authority conducted a workshop for the officers of all Local Authorities in Jaffan District on 12/12/2019 at the auditorium of the Jaffna District Secretariat.
Ms. Priyanka Athukoralage – Assistant Director and Ms. P.M.S. Rajapakshe – Senior Environmental Officer from Environmental Pollution Control Unit briefly explained about the Environmental Protection License (EPL) process. Apart from that, several other lectures on the importance of issuing EPL, procedure of issuing EPL, field inspection and reporting were explained by the officers of the Jaffna District Office.

Special Environmental Education Program for the Environmental Pioneers

A special environmental education and awareness program was conducted for the school students of the Gonigoda Maha Vidyalaya, Kurunegala on 16th, December, at the Auditorium of CEA,

The objective of this special environmental education and awareness program was to enhance the level of awareness of Environmental Pioneers who are preparing for Presidential Medal on “Tree Planting” and provide necessary guidelines to prepare project proposals relevant to the topic.

The lecture on “Importance of Tree Planting” was conducted by Ms. N. M. L.Radhika, Assistant Director, Promotion Unit of the Environmental Education and Awareness Division of the CEA.

Collaborative research project to address the surface and groundwater pollution issues in Western Province, Sri Lanka

The Central Environmental Authority & Tohoku University, Japan organized a joint workshop on 10.12.2019 at the CEA to discuss the matters related to water pollution and to develop a project proposal. The funding is expected from a Japanese government program SATREPS (Science and Technology Research Partnership for Sustainable Development) which promotes international joint research targeting global issues.

Participants from main stakeholder institutions such as NWSDB, Water Resources Board, Dept of Irrigation, SLLRDC and the universities were present for the discussion and meeting to share their knowledge and experience.

This collaborative research project with Tohoku University, Japan will address the surface and groundwater pollution issues in Western Province, Sri Lanka. The project will include qualitative and quantitative observations of surface water and groundwater, and provide treatment and remediation options to maximize the utilization of limited water resources in Western Province.

“හරිත බලශක්ති ශුරයා” තරගාවලිය 2019
මෙරට බලශක්ති ක්ෂේත්‍රය තුළ පොසිල ඉන්ධන භාවිතය අවම කර, පුනර්ජනනීය හරිත බලශක්ති භාවිතය දිරි ගැන්වීමේ අරමුණින් ජර්මානු ෆෙඩරල් විදේශ කාර්යාලය (Deutsche Gesellschaft fur International Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH) මෙරට විදුලි බල, බලශක්ති හා ව්‍යාපාර සංවර්ධන අමාත්‍යංශය හා එක්ව හරිත බලශක්ති ශුරයා තරගාවලිය 2019 වර්ෂය සඳහා සංවිධානය කරන ලදී.
බලශක්ති සංරක්ෂණය හා පුනර්ජනනීය බලශක්තිය මෙරට ප්‍රචලිත කිරීම සඳහා තාක්ෂණික, අධ්‍යාපනික, නවොද්පාදක ව්‍යාපෘති සංකල්ප යෝජනා රාජ්‍ය, පුද්ගලික ආයතන වලින් ලබා ගැනීම, සුදුසු ව්‍යාපෘති තෝරා ගැනීම, අවශ්‍ය මුල්‍ය සහයෝගය ලබාදීම මෙම වැඩසටහන මගින් සිදු කරනු ලබයි.
ඒ අනුව මෙම තරගාවලිය සඳහා මධ්‍යම පරිසර අධිකාරිය හා සබරගමු පළාත් අධ්‍යාපන දෙපාර්තමේන්තුව ඒකාබද්ධව පරිසර නියමු ව්‍යාපෘතිය හරහා බලශක්ති සංරක්ෂණය වෙත දැනුම, ආකල්ප හා කුසලතා වැඩිදියුණු කිරීම පාදක කරගත් “හරිත බලශක්ති පාසල් එකමුතුව” ව්‍යාපෘති යෝජනාව රාජ්‍ය අංශය යටතේ ඉදිරිපත් කරන ලද අතර එම තරඟයේ තුන් වන ස්ථානය ලබා ගැනීමට හැකි විය.
මෙම ව්‍යාපෘති යෝජනාවේ තේමාව වුයේ අප අධිකාරියේ පරිසර නියමු වැඩසටහන තුලින් බලශක්ති සංරක්ෂණය පාසල් ප්‍රජාව තුලට ගෙන යාමයි.

Tree Planting Program in Rathnapura District - 2019
Parallel to the National Tree Planting program, the Rathnapura Disctrict program was held at Horahinella Sumana Vidyalaya, Kahawatta with the participation of 100 Environment Pioneers. An awareness program and fruit plant distribution to the several other schools were conducted parallel to the tree planting program.
Pioneers from Horahinella Sumana Vidyalaya, Panapitiya Vidyalaya, Haupe Nawalakanda Vidyalaya, Godakumbura Miyanavita Vidalaya, Principals, teachers and relevant other officers participated in the occasion.
