North Central Province Canal Project - NCPCP North Central Province Canal Project Mahaweli Water Security Investment Program (MWSIP) is one of the major development programs implementing in Sri Lanka.

ADB and the Government of Sri Lanka are working together to deliver surplus water from the Mahaweli river basin to its dry zone, where scarce supplies undermine agricultural output and household incomes. Upper Elehara Canal Project (UECP) is one of the major components of the MWSIP. Upper Elahere Canal is the first section of proposed North Central Province Canal(NCP canal), that includes the sect

ion from Moragahakanda reservoir to Huruluwewa which has a length of 65.5km. At the end point of NCP at Yakalla, water is diverted to Huruluwewa(128 MCM-103,680 Acft), and Mahakanadarawa via Mannankattiya and Eruwewa (66MCM-53460 Acft). This part of the canal will also provide water to Nachchaduwa,Nuwarawewa and Thisawewa(93MCM-75330Acft)
Total existing area benefitted by UEC is about 10000 Ha

Reservation for drinking water also available for the area people under this project.
