Kanthale Govi Janapada in Eastern Province was started in 1953 under the programme of establishing Govi Janapada of D.S.Senanayake the prime minister of Sri Lanka with the concept of Wawai,Dagabai,Gamai,Pansalai. This school was started on 02nd February in 1958 with the name of Agrabodhi School by Rev. Watagolle Narada thero who could speak three languages fluently and the chief priest of welunna
Rajamaha Viharaya in Kanthale. The school was started in a small hut, under the shelter of the Bo tree at the temple. There were 34 students at the beginning and it was increased up to 107 within a year. on 02 of february in 1959 the school was transferred to the government and the name changed as T/ Agrabodhi School. After the rev Batagolle Nandha who was the first principle of this school Mr.Somapala Jayaveera was appointed as the second principle by the government .Mrs.Asilinda Silva was the first lady teacher of this school. On 10th of March in 1967 this little school was promoted to the “Maha Widyala “by the education minister I.M.R .A Eeriyagolle on that time. Mr.K.D.P jayasena who was the principle of this school in that period had taken a big effort to develop this school. As a result of his effort our school was able to receive many material resources like a since Lab, a two storey building and etc .in the first time our school history a student was selected to the university in his period. By that time student population had also increased about 2000. Strafe was included 65 teachers. In this period too we were lucky to receive a two storey building, a meeting hall, a play ground and another number of buildings. The governor of north and east Mr.Layanal Prenandu who saw the development this school decided to promote this school to nation school. That beautiful day came on 07 of July in 1994. Jayasekara who was the principle that time, very hardly worked on it. On 02 of February in 2009 T/ Agrabodhi national school celebrated her 50th anniversary in grateful manner surrounding more than 3000 her sons and daughters
