Philippine Ambassador Nina P. Cainglet attends 75th Anniversary celebration of The Colombo Plan in Colombo, Sri Lanka

Colombo, 03 July 2026 – Her Excellency Nina P. Cainglet, Philippine Ambassador to Bangladesh, attended the celebration of the 75th anniversary of The Colombo Plan at Galle Face Hotel in Colombo, Sri Lanka, on 03 July 2026.

The anniversary celebration, which was graced by Her Excellency Dr. Harini Amarasuriya, Prime Minister of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, and Hon. Arun Hemachandra, MP, Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs and Foreign Employment, gathered Ambassadors and High Commissioners, senior government officials, and representatives from member countries and partner organizations to commemorate The Colombo Plan's 75 years of fostering regional cooperation, human resource development, and technical collaboration across the Asia-Pacific region.

Ambassador Cainglet also congratulated Dr. Benjamin "Benjie" Reyes, the first Filipino to serve as Secretary-General of The Colombo Plan, on his successful tenure as the organization's 8th Secretary-General. She commended Dr. Reyes' leadership and contributions in advancing The Colombo Plan's mission of regional cooperation and sustainable development.

Ambassador Cainglet joined the guests in reaffirming the Philippines' longstanding support for The Colombo Plan and its enduring mission of promoting inclusive growth, knowledge sharing, and sustainable development among its member states. END.

On the morning of our Independence Day on June 12th, The Philippine Consulate in Sri Lanka marked the 128th Anniversary of Philippine Independence with a beautiful ceremony at the iconic Galle Face Hotel, anchored by this year's national theme: "Kalayaan. Kinabukasan. Kasaysayan." (Freedom. Future. History.).

This year carries a historic significance as we also celebrate a proud milestone - 65 years of formal diplomatic relations between The Philippines and Sri Lanka.

The day's proceedings commenced with the traditional flag hoisting ceremony, followed by a solemn and blessed Holy Mass. The morning concluded with a traditional cake cutting alongside our key invitees, dignitaries, and members of the Sri Lanka – Philippines Business Council, followed by a wonderful breakfast fellowship with our vibrant Filipino community.

A heartfelt thank you to Rev. Fr. Dan for his spiritual guidance and our dedicated consulate staff for organizing a seamless event. Most importantly, thank you to everyone who joined us to celebrate our shared heritage and enduring friendship!
