UDA Expands Professional Services through Project Appraisal Consultancy
For the first time, the Urban Development Authority (UDA) has commenced providing Project
Appraisal Consultancy Services to external clients, under the guidance and supervision of the
Chairman of UDA, Director General of UDA, and Deputy Director General (Real Estate & Land
Management) of UDA.
Project appraisal is a multidisciplinary exercise that brings together the knowledge and expertise
of different professionals, including Real Estate Professionals for market and financial assessments,
Architects for conceptual designs, Quantity Surveyors for Bills of Quantities (BOQs), and Planners for
planning guidance.
One of UDA’s key strengths is having these multidisciplinary professionals under one roof. Through
the UDA Project Appraisal Consultancy Services Committee, this collective professional knowledge
and experience is brought together to provide comprehensive consultancy services while
generating additional income for the UDA.
The Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE), as the first external client of this initiative,
has entrusted UDA with consultancy services for four major projects, including Training Centres
and Immigration Resource Centres at Homagama, Ampara, and Kandy, and the relocation of the
SLBFE Office Complex to Denzil Kobbekaduwa Mawatha.
These four projects are expected to generate more than Rs. 10 million in consultancy income for
the UDA.
Another important milestone was achieved with the receipt of Rs. 2.5 million as the consultancy
fee for the Homagama Project, following the successful completion of the assigned consultancy
services by the UDA team.
The UDA also has two additional project appraisal assignments in the pipeline: identifying the most
suitable and economically viable development options for the ETFB land at Nawam Mawatha, and
undertaking a preliminary project appraisal for HDFC Bank for a proposed mixed development at
Srimath Bandaranaike Mawatha.
Through the combined expertise of Real Estate Professionals, Architects, Quantity Surveyors,
Planners, and other professionals, UDA’s Project Appraisal Consultancy Services aim to support
investors and institutions in answering a fundamental investment question:
“Is this project worth undertaking, and under what conditions should it proceed?”
