On India’s 80th Independence Day, H.E. Ambassador Noor Rahman Sheikh joined UNIFIL HOM & Force Commander H.E. Maj Gen Diodato Abignara and Indian Battalion INDBATT XXVII led by CONTICO Col Prasoon Singh, serving with UNIFIL in South Lebanon for a special celebration.
INDBATT XXVII also showcased an impressive parade and cultural events.
The Ambassador hoisted the Tricolour and felicitated winners of various competitions organised to mark Independence Day.

As a symbol of India’s enduring friendship with Lebanon and its commitment to peace and a greener future and as part of , the Ambassador also planted a tree in the Battalion premises.

The Embassy of India in Beirut celebrated India’s 80th Independence Day with patriotic fervour & pride and witnessed participation of a large number of Indian diaspora & Lebanese friends of India.

H.E. Ambassador Noor Rahman Sheikh paid floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi, followed by a stirring collective rendition of Vande Mataram (full version), the hoisting of the Tricolour and singing of Jana Gana Mana.

The Ambassador also read out the Hon’ble President Smt Droupadi Murmu’s Address to the Nation, reflecting on India’s remarkable journey and Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s vision for Viksit Bharat @2047.

The celebrations also recognised creativity and achievement, as winners of the Bharat Ko Jaaniye Quiz, participants of the Madhubani Painting Workshop, artists who contributed to the Viksit Bharat @2047 painting initiative, and photographers whose work featured in “India Through My Lens” were felicitated.

The event also featured a painting exhibition themed Viksit Bharat 2047 and a photography exhibition titled India Through My Lens, showcasing photos taken by Lebanese travelers to India.

Ambassador H.E. Noor Rahman Sheikh met Mr. Walid Hamzi, a Lebanese content creator after the latter attended a course under ITEC on The Art of Documentary Filmmaking at the Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute, Kolkata.

Mr. Walid conveyed thanks for the amazing opportunity and created a video encouraging other Lebanese professionals (Govt and private) to make the most of ITEC programme by applying for a course in India.
