Back in April, at Sir Al Danniyeh, a transformative stigma reduction training brought together teachers, facilitators, outreach workers, center coordinators, and cleaners for a powerful experience. The training provided a safe space for participants to express their feelings, discuss the impact of stigma, and share personal stories that deepened emotional connections and fostered empathy among the team.
Throughout the sessions, participants shared their experience with being stigmatized because of their background, while an outreach worker spoke about the challenges of working in stigmatized communities. These stories were eye-opening, creating a strong bond among the participants and encouraging open communication.
The feedback was overwhelmingly positive. Many participants expressed gratitude for the chance to reflect on their biases and how better awareness would improve their work with others. Teachers felt empowered to foster inclusive classrooms, and outreach workers gained fresh insights into combating stigma in their communities.
One teacher said, “This training helped me realize my own biases and how to create a more supportive environment for my students.” The impact of the training was clear: the center became a more compassionate, cohesive space where everyone felt heard and valued.
The training was not only educational but also transformative, creating lasting connections and fostering a more inclusive environment. The shared stories and open communication will continue to influence the center’s culture, making it a model for others.
