Can a graphic novel create empathy? The ability to see the world through someone else’s eyes has become more important than ever. Graphic novels have a unique power: they can make complex emotions visible, explore conflicts from multiple perspectives, and open spaces for reflection and dialogue.
In this three-day workshop with Austrian graphic novel artist Patrick Bonato, 12 selected participants from across the region will discover how visual storytelling can transform personal experiences, memories and ideas into compelling graphic novels. The workshop introduces an intuitive method based on American cartoonist Frank Santoro’s comic course: Instead of starting with a fixed script, you will dive straight into fast, intuitive drawing exercises that allow images and associations to shape the story as it unfolds.
By the end of the workshop, you’ll leave with new tools, fresh perspectives – and the beginning of your own graphic novel.

P R O G R A M M E
• Intuitive drawing techniques for developing visual narratives
• Story structure, composition and rhythm in comics storytelling
• Exploring emotion, conflict and perspective through visual storytelling
